Hakuba sighs again and closes his eyes, relaxing into his chair a little before opening his eyes once more and staring at the ceiling. As much as he knew he had to play along with Kaito’s farce, it irritated him to no end. He, of course, wanted to be the first to catch KID. After he caught Spider he fully intended to cut KID’s career short, though that was also a chore and a half, but if he could catch Spider, he was sure he could catch KID.
“Kaitou KID.” Hakuba explained. “That is why I’ve decided to stay here in Japan. Of course, I plan to reveal KID’s identity myself, but until then he’ll make good bait.”
Not that he saw KID as bait anymore, but he did have appearances to keep.
Bait? A frown made its way through his mask at that. While this wasn’t much news to him, the way the detective had casually said that line didn’t sit well with him. Kaito looked up and met Hakuba in the eyes.
“…And what would you do if this Spider actually managed to kill Kid before you had the chance to do anything?”
In his mind, he saw Spider’s smirk as the man said that Kuroba Toichi was no longer in this world. His hand tightened slightly on his arm.
“If you haven’t caught him yet, how do you know you’ll be able to before he causes more damage?”
