“Why are you leaving?”

A person from my muse’s past threatens to end your muse’s life unless ours sever ties. Send “Why are you leaving?” to hear the lies/excuses my muse comes up with to leave yours.

Shinichi flinched at the sound of the thief’s voice, wishing to god it had been any one but him to ask. He could lie to just about anyone, had been doing so for so long, but KID wasn’t one of those people. Their entire relationship, of sorts, had been honest (though that didn’t mean there weren’t secrets or things unsaid). And now he was going to have to lie about this, couldn’t let him know.

“Figures you would seek me out upon hearing I’m leaving,” he sighed out, keeping his back to the thief. Maybe he could manage if he didn’t look at him? “I… have a new case I’m being sent on. It’ll take me out of the country.”

He wasn’t looking at the thief, had almost missed the beginning of his words, was praying the person threatening KID wasn’t listening because he’d known it would come to this. He’d known KID would want the truth and that he’d cave and give it to him. Because the truth was important to Shinichi and he’d hated himself for thinking he could lie to his magician.

He’d just hoped that it wouldn’t come to this, that maybe he could protect one person he cared for when he was so bad at protecting everyone else. It was Shinichi’s turn to ball his hands into fists, body tense before the stiffness in his body seemed to just let go and he let out a tired sigh.

“I don’t want you to die.”

Die? Me? Why would him leaving…

He didn’t take his eyes off the detective. Kid had never seen the other look so… it almost seemed like he was defeated. Shinichi really seemed to believe that he had to go… for the thief to live. And that he had to go so far as to make up an excuse about it.

…Why?

It wasn’t as if Kid didn’t face quite a bit of danger already. He didn’t know what sort of threat he would be under if the detective stayed… but it couldn’t be worse than what he dealt with already.

The thief let out a sigh and suddenly walked up to the other, putting a hand on Shinichi’s head and ruffling his hair some, smiling softly.

“Well, if that’s all, then I’m afraid I definitely can’t let you leave. You should know that I’m rather hard to kill, tantei-kun.” The look in his eyes grew a bit more sad. “And even with the possibility of a little danger… I’d rather you not go…”
