Kaito yawned and lifted his head from the desk, stretching his arms out in front of him as he did, ears folding back against his he-
Wait. That didn’t sound or feel right.
He blinked and moved them around more, cautiously raising a hand to touch the top if his head. And met something warm and fuzzy.
…Did Akako do something to me in my sleep or something?
The ears picked up a noise coming from the door and he turned just in time to see Hakuba coming into the room. They went flat against his skull again and he backed up slightly in his seat, only to notice something else didn’t seem right. But this time, he didn’t check. He didn’t really have to. A black tail curled around him and flicked around some, clearly visible from the front, causing the magician to stare at it for a moment before his face turned a bit pink.
What the… why ears and a tail?
…Oh, right. Hakuba. He glanced back up at the detective, hoping he hadn’t seen yet. The ears would be hard to spot if they just stayed down…. now if he could just get the tail under his shirt…
Hakuba paused in the doorway a few seconds, taking in the sight, before slowly closing the door behind him. He grabbed one of the chairs and put it beside the bed, sitting down and reaching up to run his finger tips along Kuroba’s tail, barely-there brushes. He couldn’t even feel it through his gloves, but he knew to be gentle.
“You’re going to have to move closer to the edge if you want me to scratch behind your ears.”
The tail started waving around some as Hakuba pet it, trying to twine around his hand a couple of times before pulling away. It wasn’t nearly as nice as the ears, but still felt good.

When the detective spoke, his ears twitched and he grinned, curling up along the side of the bed as well he could so that the detective could reach both the tail and ears. The magician pulled the pillow down with him so he could cross him arms over it and put his head down on them, still looking at the other.
