“Sneaking into the hospital after visiting hours?” he asked, a brow raising at the flutter of KID’s cape. He’d set the book he’d been reading down, placing a bookmark where he’d left off. Not that he needed it per se, he’d read the book enough times. “Can’t you do anything that doesn’t break a law?"

He was teasing, of course, and was actually glad to see the thief. He was starting to go a little stir-crazy as it was and cursing the fact he’d put himself in this situation. He needed to stop risking himself so much lest he self destruct.

“One of these days I’ll be able to meet with you during the day and not have to worry about the police chasing you,” he chuckled a bit. The line was probably out of character for him but he was on a bit of painkillers so he was maybe a little out of sorts.

And maybe a little more open.

“I played bait for a case. And you know how my luck is, something always goes wrong.” This time not only did his tracker get destroyed, they’d ended up in the wrong building completely. The culprit hadn’t been too pleased to find out he was working with the cops. “Ended up with another bullet wound to my count and a broken arm.” And a couple of ribs but he didn’t really see that was a problem considering none of them punctured a lung.

He blinked a couple of times at the other’s openness, a small, painful tug pulling at his chest as the other continued speaking. In all fairness, he could meet Shinichi as himself. The detective’s actions and attitude at the heists already made it fairly clear he’d be safe in terms of not being arrested… And really, it was Kid who carried the danger with getting too involved. People like Aoko and Hakuba, there were still reasons against giving away his identity, but Shinichi could only interact with him as Kid, and thus, gotten closer to him under the thief’s name… So whether his identity ever got out or not, the detective met danger anyway, if those people looking for Pandora ever tried to attack the ones around him…

Logic wasn’t what held him back. No, the reason… probably fell in line with habit. The thief had never outright given away his identity… Mostly just a couple of veiled hints, or someone figured it out on their own, but they’d always met him as Kaito first…

The thief paused his thoughts and looked up, becoming aware that the room had been silent for a minute or so.

“Hmm… Maybe I should ask the Lady if she’ll go over you when I’m not at a heist, if your luck is this bad. Or maybe you could learn to stop going after criminals directly. I don’t think all of them are as happy to see you as I am,” Light teasing, maybe a slight underlying scolding.
