“Why are you leaving?”

A person from my muse’s past threatens to end your muse’s life unless ours sever ties. Send “Why are you leaving?” to hear the lies/excuses my muse comes up with to leave yours.

Shinichi flinched at the sound of the thief’s voice, wishing to god it had been any one but him to ask. He could lie to just about anyone, had been doing so for so long, but KID wasn’t one of those people. Their entire relationship, of sorts, had been honest (though that didn’t mean there weren’t secrets or things unsaid). And now he was going to have to lie about this, couldn’t let him know.

“Figures you would seek me out upon hearing I’m leaving,” he sighed out, keeping his back to the thief. Maybe he could manage if he didn’t look at him? “I… have a new case I’m being sent on. It’ll take me out of the country.”

“You don’t understand!” His voice had even startled himself, realizing he’d blurted it out without thinking. It was too late to take it back, he might as well just continue on and hope he wasn’t being spied on.

“This man is dangerous serial killer, it took us months to catch up to him!” And far too many deaths in the process but Shinichi tried hard not to dwell on that thought too much.“That was the case that landed me in the hospital for almost as long as we chased the guy.”

Of course now that he’s mentioning it he isn’t sure how much information KID had ever managed to find out about that specific case. He hadn’t wanted to worry the thief after all. Hm, may have just gotten himself in trouble. Oops.

“I don’t want to go, believe me. And I know you’re hard to kill but this guy… KID, he scares me. He is capable of anything, it’s almost like going up against the crows only he doesn’t have a boss and punishment to worry about. And he’d do anything to hurt you, kill you, just to get at me.”

The sudden outburst took the thief by surprise, making him jolt a bit and pull his hand back as he listened, frowning. No, he hadn’t known those details about the hospital situation, but as often as Shinichi got involved in cases he shouldn’t, he’d just taken to offering support on injuries and expecting the other to tell him if it was more important than just ‘how did you get hurt this time?’. Apparently he’d expected too much…

However, the detective did seem to be terrified of the guy. For him. Especially if he was comparing the killer to those people…

Baka tantei

Kid moved closer, pulling the other to where he faced him directly, lightly placing his hands on both sides of Shinichi’s head to make him look at the thief.

“Tantei-kun… If he really wanted to hurt you, why would leaving make a difference? It wouldn’t be a guarantee he wouldn’t come after me anyway, if he’s that bad, and you’re going to be hurt anyway just by going away. And then both of us wouldn’t have the other to rely on. You’re scared, but you’ve gotten him once before. And if he’s going to try and hurt me, then at least you know where he’ll aim, instead of having to let him wander around because you’re not here to stop him this time.”

His voice softened slightly and he slowly let go of the detective.

“Besides, if you stayed… you’d have some extra help this time.”
