Hunting Mode

2ofakindmk:

*Saguru’s eyes returned to being full of life and he was confused why the thief was in front of him. He heard a crackling sound and looked down to see himself holding a stun gun in his right hand. He turned it off and let it fall to the floor. He saw cards pinning his clothes to the wall and heard a small rip in his clothes when he tried to move. So he stayed where he was. His knife was in his peripheral vision and he wondered why it was in the wall. He looked the thief over and saw blood on Kid’s white suit.*

“Did…I attack you?” *He didn’t see anyone else, so that was the result he came to given past experience.*

The thief blinked when Hakuba dropped the gun, though he didn’t lower his own right away. …It did seem like the other had come back to his senses, with the dead look replaced with confusion and words coming now…

“…Yes, you did,” he answered after a long pause for thought. The weapon tilted down slightly, at the ground instead of the detective, though he didn’t make a move forward to help the other yet.

“Rather impolitely, I might add. …Is there something I should know, or should I write it off as ‘the detective finally didn’t want to put up with the person he can’t catch’?”

2ofakindmk:

*Saguru’s knife got stuck in the wall after he failed to kill the thief. When it didn’t pull out he pulled a stun gun out from his pocket and aimed at Kid.*

No. No nope, he is immediately going to shoot at that to disarm Hakuba. Lucky break on the knife, and he would have shot any weapon the detective may have pulled out, but definitely a stun gun (did he have that on him all the time?) when he didn’t have the distance to avoid it. And his own weapon wouldn’t do a good job defending, metal being conductive..Yeah, not dealing with that, just disarm the detective so he doesn’t have any more weapons.

And even if the other somehow kept grip, his next shots aimed at clothes, pinning them to the wall. Hopefully would be enough to hold Hakuba, but at this point, he’s not going to assume anything, and just be prepared for the worst.

2ofakindmk:

*He tried slashing the other and aimed for a vital spot. This time the riddle was a little different and it was heard in a monotone voice from the detective’s mouth.*

“Dutiful servant of flesh and metal,
Friend or foe you surely know
The prey that’s in front of him,
He must break what is meant to be broken.”

With no room to move back, it was all Kid could do to twist and try to duck to the side, though a painful coldness cutting deep into his arm told him he hadn’t escaped that unscathed. Figured…

Didn’t focus on it too long, though. The other hand brought up the metal card shooter as he took few quick steps to put distance between himself and Hakuba, aiming it at the other, though his finger wasn’t in the trigger. …Had to ignore the warm feeling of blood going down the injured arm, though. …He should run, and any other attacker, he might have, but…

“I think you should leave riddles to me, tantei-san. You’re timing for them isn’t the best, and vague clues aren’t something to focus on while you’re, you know, trying to cut into me. I know I frustrate you sometimes, but this is a bit much…” The light tone was more for himself at this point. The thief figured the detective wouldn’t really be able to catch that. If he’s really out of it, questionable if gas bombs would knock him out… He’d rather avoid using the more violent means of incapacitating the other, since he clearly wasn’t of his usual mind, but… He’s also not going to idly let himself be killed, either.

2ofakindmk:

*Saguru couldn’t hear the thief’s words. Instead, he continued to lunge at Kid and tried to stab him as all he could hear was the orders in his head to kill the other. The intent and explanation was in the riddle. Hopefully Kid would do something that could help him buy enough time for him to be able to solve it before the detective succeeded in his objective.*

The white thief continued to avoid that knife, not wanting to feel that cold metal anywhere near him. Easy to do right now, when Hakuba didn’t seem to use it, largely just trying to get a stab in, so thank kami that the other wasn’t skilled in that sort of weapon. He’d dodged a sword close range before, a knife felt simpler..

His next step back got cut short and his thoughts thrown off by a wall, sending adrenaline spiking through him as the feeling of quickly being trapped set in. Should be able to dodge anything fatal, if it’s another stab attempt, but damn if he wasn’t going to end up with some cuts after this, he should have been paying attention! Granted, hard to think with a sudden, close range attack sprung at him but… Card gun. Yes, if he could get his weapon, he could at least defend better… But all of this still felt wrong. Hakuba hadn’t responded, and how he looked… What was going on?

2ofakindmk:

*Saguru was on the ground unconscious when he’d been found on the street by the magician/thief. He was curled up into the fetal position, not being able to be moved from his position or be woken up. A staticky sound from the device on the back of his neck was heard. Then a riddle was spoken through the speaker on the broadcaster.*

“Dutiful servant of flesh and metal.
Friend or foe you surely know.
All the prey he had gathered
Must break what is meant to be broken.”

*Then the detective stirred. He got up and opened his eyes, but they were unusually blank. The next moment, he went to attack Kaito with his pocket knife.*

Kid had been kneeling trying to see what could be wrong with the other, since he didn’t notice any injuries offhand. Wary, since the last time he’d come across someone seemingly unconscious at a heist had been Akako, and… well, better safe than sorry. The static made him freeze, however, pausing his examination.

…What? …A riddle? And how…

When Hakuba got up, a small chill ran through the thief. Something was very, very wrong, even making him take a step back. Did open his mouth to say something, try to see if Hakuba was okay, but the unasked question answered itself, in the worst way, forcing him to back away to the side quickly.

Serious deja vu, though he got the feeling a certain arachnid-titled assassin wasn’t the one causing this event…

“That’s…” he got out, still tensed and watching the other for sudden moves so he’d be able to dodge, maybe disarm if he got lucky, small mask of a smile on his lips, “that’s not exactly a polite way to say ‘hi’, tantei-san.”

“Apollo! That’s such a cute name for a cat!”-Kairi

“Oh, ah… thanks.” Not going to mention that it had been based purely on the fur. Nope. …Hard to be creative with names after coming up with ones for so many doves, really.

“Guess owning a cat is yet another difference between us now,” he added, then grinned. “Though, who knows? Maybe you guys will get a cat, too. And if it’s white, or maybe light grey, you could name it Artemis to match~”
