“EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN do you have a sec? I’m running a survey. It won’t be long, I swear.”

americanjack:

“Hmm? Sure, I don’t mind…”

Kaito trailed off when he saw who had called out. He might not remember every random person he met, but someone who’d said he would be able to figure out who Kid is wasn’t the type he’d forget… But it did make him wonder if they really would be able to.

He smiled at the other, putting his hands in his pockets as he completely turned to face them.

“I’m not doing anything right now anyway.”

”..Point. Guess I should head to Osaka during the week-end, maybe my luck would turn.”

Xie didn’t really want Hattori to win; xie just wanted Kudo to lose. He sounded a bit like an asshole to xir opinion -but yeah, voices were often a bit different at tv, it’d been a while since xie’d last heard anything involving him, and xie was a little judgemental according to some people -who were right, by the way—
“Bah, at worst it’d just be another shoe lost- I’m starting to wonder if that idiot is making a museum with them or something.”
Buuuut xie was trailing off again.
“Can’t help it. I just love to bet. As long as it isn’t something too important, of course.”
“Can’t say I’m not a bit of a gambler myself. Comes somewhat with being a magician.”
Though… usually not with physical possessions on the line. If it was in play, usually no actual gambling at all, other than candy and ones like strip poker. Not so playful… well, losing a gamble he takes as Kid wouldn’t be good in all areas…
“Shoes, though… that is a strange thing to bet. Pick that as the stake every time or…?”

“EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN do you have a sec? I’m running a survey. It won’t be long, I swear.”

“I’m not doing anything right now anyway.”

Xie chuckled at the ridiculousness of the suggestion. Even if he was as untrustworthy as the rumors said, nobody smart would try to outspeed xir when xie knew who he truly was.

“Pretty sure you aren’t nearly as bad as they say.”

Whoever he was talking about, the newspapers, everyone.

“Ah, yeah, I made a bet with a friend of mine -I should stop, he’d won half of my shoes already.- I’ve bet that the west detective was better and more trustworthy than the east one. I’m losing from now though.”

Some might say running a survey in Tokyo, the city of said detective, wasn’t very wise. Shut up.

The magician just smiled innocently at the comment.
Depends on who’s asked, really… Pretty sure a certain British detective would get it about perfect…

“Hmm… yeah, not the best bet to have made…. The name Kudo Shinichi is fairly well known across Japan, by most of his titles, though I’ll admit, calling them the east and west detectives might help you. However, Hattori might be a good detective, but he’s not the one with the nickname ‘Heisei Holmes’… But you did pick a pretty bad place if you wanted Hattori to win…”

“I’m not doing anything right now anyway.”

“Yeah, I knew. You sounded like the kind who’d like ridiculously twisted puzzles.”

That and you send bad-punned riddles before every single one of your heist it kind of give it away.

“Didn’t expect you to resolve it that fast though. I underestimated you it seem. But yeah, I trust you with that. It’s not like you were going to use it against me anyway.”

Not willingly, at least. Xie could feel it. That prankster wasn’t a bad person.

“You sure I wouldn’t? I know maaany people who would say I’m not exactly the most trustworthy,” he said, grinning mischievously.

Of course he wouldn’t. Not unless he felt it was needed, though he hoped nothing would ever require him to abuse information someone trusted him with.

“Still, thank you for sharing it with me.”

Kaito hesitated a moment before putting the paper in his pocket. He wasn’t sure if the other wanted it back or not, but for now, he might as well put it away.

“So, is that survey for anything in particular? Or just curiosity?”

“EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN do you have a sec? I’m running a survey. It won’t be long, I swear.”

..Yeah, xie probably wouldn’t. Urgh. Ducking freudian slips.

“Great! I hope you don’t mind the occasional slips though, because I tend to do them. Really. Often.”

And there was nothing more embarassing.

“Oh, also before I forget…”

Xie rummaged into xir pocket, pulling out a worn out paper and giving it to xir.

“It wouldn’t be fair if I was the only one knowing things about you, right? Here a riddle to help.”

There was only one thing written on the paper. ‘Ɛ//Ԁㄣㄥ|-|,/ ‘

Xie wasn’t that much of a prankster, but that sure was the greatest joke xie’d ever done.

“I don’t mind at all, just so long as they don’t pertain to my job…”

The magician watched curiously as the other felt around in their pocket and pulled out the paper. When it was held out, he glanced up at them before taking it and looking it over. After a moment, Kaito quickly turned his head back up at Alex and raised an eyebrow. If he was right about what it said, it would certainly explain some things, as well as answer his question from their previous encounter.

“Don’t know if you were aware, but I do tend to like puzzles… And this is quite the interesting one you’ve given… You sure it’s okay to trust me with this?”

“EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN do you have a sec? I’m running a survey. It won’t be long, I swear.”

“I’m not doing anything right now anyway.”

Truth.

Whoa. That was his true name? That was funny. Well, to xir anyway, but xie’d learned long ago that xir sense of humor was the shittiest.

“Neat name. Hey, I know you’re probably busy with your classes and sidejobs, but we should hang out sometimes handsome.”

Xie was pretty interesting after all- wait a sec.

“Please tell me I didn’t say that out loud again.”

There was a solid handful of people xie’d called sexy recently. It was starting to be worrying.

He blinked at the sudden compliment, then tried to bring a hand up to hide some of the laughter that came after the other stopped speaking. It didn’t work too well.

‘Again’? Just how often does that happen?

Kaito soon managed to stop laughing, but the grin never left his face. It would be interesting to have someone who knows who he was, outside of Jii and his mom. Well, and Hakuba, but that didn’t really count, since he couldn’t let the detective actually know for certain…

“I could, though you probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.~ But I guess I don’t mind hanging out.”

You are a freaking world-wide wanted thief that’s what I call getting in trouble often you bloody teenagdiot.

“Weirdly, I’m not convinced, I have no idea why.”

Xie sneered and added a stick to the ‘east’ section of xir paper.

“Thinking about it, circumstances made me completely forget to introduce myself properly. I’m Shoutime Alex.”

The magician shrugged at the skepticism. Not surprising, to not believe a thief.

“Not sure why you aren’t either. But it’s nice to officially meet you, Alex,” he said, nodding to the other. He hesitated a moment before offering his own name, though he didn’t really want to give it fully right now. At least with his given name, it could almost be mistaken for an alias, considering how it sounds…

“You can call me Kaito.”

“EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN do you have a sec? I’m running a survey. It won’t be long, I swear.”

“Good! Well-”

Xie paused, frowning. That voice…

“…Oh, that’s you Kiddo? It’d been a while. Glad to see you’re out of troubles.”

Xie’d been careful to choose words ambiguious enough to not put him in an unwanted situation, but to be honest xie was a bit surprised; xie hadn’t been expecting to run into an international thief while running a dumb survey.

Well surprised for five seconds xie didn’t care enough to be all shaken up about it.

“Anyway, who do you think is the best? The detective of the East or the one of the West?”

He couldn’t help but chuckle just a bit. It was just like the first time, stopping mid-sentence before saying something that shouldn’t be easily known so confidently and casually. As a thief, he should probably have been worried someone could do that without even trying… But again, the other had taken care not to actually give anything away, so he really didn’t see a reason to.

“You make it sound like I get into trouble so often. Contrary to what some may say, I’m not that bad.” Usually.

“As for the question… Hmm… I’ll have to go with East, since I hear more about him over here.”

“EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN do you have a sec? I’m running a survey. It won’t be long, I swear.”

YOU! *panting* Jesus fuck you’re fast…You’re that Kaito Kid the newspapers won’t shut up about, aren’t you? I don’t know what you stole but give it back right now you half-assed macaronian llama douche!

americanjack:

moonlightmajutsushi:

Half-assed macaronian llama douche? Quite the… unique insult….

The thief looked around to make sure no police cars were speeding around nearby before slowing, turning to the person behind him.

“Erm… I am… However, I’ll have to apologise about not giving my target to you, as I’ve made arrangements for the jewel to be returned already.”

Not that he would have just handed it over anyway. Even the detectives had to at least catch him at the heist to get anything back, not just happen upon him in the street afterward.

“Yeah, I guess you should go. If you stay here too long the police will find you. One more question, though.”

That was a very stupid question, right, but xie still have to ask it.

“If I ever run into you without your costume, do you want me to pretend I don’t know who you are? Because I will recognize you.”

He hesitated, his smile faltering for a brief second before returning. It probably had something to do with how the person guessed his age… And while he didn’t exactly like hearing someone say they could easily find out who he was, if it did happen, he’d rather be aware that the other really did know, than be guessing whether he didn’t or not.

"Hmmm…. So long as you’re not going to try and get me arrested or anything, you can go ahead and make it known that you’re aware of who I am. Though, I obviously wouldn’t want you saying anything if other people are around.”

He already had enough problems with Hakuba constantly pointing out who he was, even if the detective really had no proof. Having someone else ‘know’ him didn’t really feel like it’d be all that different. He just hoped people wouldn’t start making a habit of it.

“You want the honest answer? At the time, it seemed like a good idea. that’s really all.”

Well yeah xie didn’t have the time to think. Xie saw a thief, identified him a thief, knew xie couldn’t get hurt by him, and went after him. To be fair, it could have worked. You never know what to expect with the phantom thief.

“But I don’t regret it. I have some interesting informations about you now, after all.”

For once xir ‘problem’ was useful…

He couldn’t help but smile at the response. It seemed good, so do it? Not the best logic to follow, even if he was known for not harming others.

“I see. Well, if that was all you wanted, then I should probably take my leave now. Wouldn’t want you finding out any more ‘interesting information, now would I?”

While he was still interested in the other, especially on their observation, he knew he shouldn’t stay in one place for too long.
