Hakuba blinked when he noticed the young boy all by himself and walked over to him, crouching down. “Hi there kiddo, where’s your mom and dad, are you lost?”

Kaito blinked, startled into backing up a couple of steps when the stranger suddenly came next to him.

“Well… I think my parents are at home… And no, I’m not lost. But do you know when this place got here?” He looked at the building again. It was a bookstore, but he definitely would have remembered if there was one close by. “I don’t remember seeing it before.”

Maybe this was going to work after all, even if he had piqued the others interest there was still the game. Maybe he would never have to reveal what was under the trench coat. He shifted a little and refused to look anywhere near KID, keeping his eyes off into the distance. The beautiful sight that the other had given him.

“I told you, if you want to know, you’ll have to take off my trench coat yourself.”

Of course Hakuba wasn’t answering. But whatever he was wearing, he must not want it seen, if the averted eyes were any indication. And he didn’t actually want him to take off the coat, because if the avoidance were just to tease, he’d probably be looking much more smug at having caught his attention, rather than refusing to even look at the thief.

Dammit, tantei… I thought I was the cheater….

Kid hesitated before he moved even closer, until he was right next to his detective, then leaned to where he was in front of the other some and staring him in the face. The want to touch grew stronger as he approached, but he’d known it would. Interest outweighed added temptation.

“…This is a rather strange time to be requesting that I undress you, Hakuba.” Head tilt, slight puppy dog eye action going on. Try and at least get information the less cheating way before resorting to other measures…. “I don’t even get a hint of what I’d be getting as a surprise?”

Hakuba hadn’t realized he’d said that out loud. He swallowed and looked of to the side, cheeks flaring up brighter. He wasn’t really sure he wanted the other to see how, of course, he could always use the game to his advantage, of course then he’d be perking the others curiosity. He chewed on his bottom lip, thinking it over and over again in his head, wondering if he should just say he was thinking out loud; or come up with something else.

Instead what came out of his mouth was. “If you want to know, you’ll have to come undo my coat yourself.”

Well that wasn’t something he hadn’t considered Hakuba saying. It did poke at his curiosity more and he did take a few steps closer, but…

Did it count as touching if he only messed with the buttons on the coat? He may not be as focused on the game, but it wasn’t as though he was going to give in just because he was curious…And getting so close to undo it in the first place might not be the best idea when relying on self-control…

…Wouldn’t stop him from asking questions, though, even if there was always a chance Hakuba might not answer.

“….Umm…. why? You’re not wearing your usual suit?”

It was absolutely breath taking. Hakuba sucked in a breath as he looked out over the city with wide eyes. It was beautiful, something he hadn’t seen before and he brought a gloved hand to his mouth. He didn’t no what to say, it seemed the thief was good at leaving him speechless like this. He pulled his trench coat around himself a bit tighter.

“Kind of makes my own surprise seem rather dull.” He chuckled, a little bit nervous now, and feeling incredibly foolish. He could feel his cheeks flaring with a bit of embarrassment and thanked the darkness for concealing it.

Kid glanced at Hakuba out of the corner of his eye, lips twitching a bit wider in amusement. He did like making his detective unable to talk, though, he’d been surprised by the other’s reactions more than a few times. Just glad this wasn’t one of them. The only other reaction he might’ve hoped for would have been a hug, but the game wasn’t really his main focus, so he… mostly… didn’t mind not getting one. A sudden gust of wind making him feel a bit more aware of the cold didn’t really help with the urge from earlier coming back, though….

The thief stared for a few moments before actually turning to look at him, tilting his head questioningly as his hands moved behind his back again.

“Oh? You have a surprise?”

Hakuba just hoped that no one would recognize them, true they were far up, but if someone happened to see KID’s cape and call out… well, that would not be the sort of situation he’d like to be in. He followed behind, close but not too close, knowing the game was still afoot though he was starting to get a bit chilly. He wished he’d worn something different, more layers then what he was.

He shivered a little but kept his pace, making sure to follow KID’s footsteps and stay between the lights.

He continued, moving a bit slower than he would have normally so that Hakuba could keep up without having to worry about losing his footing. The thought of possibly being seen never crossed his mind. People paid surprisingly little mind to him outside of a heist, even if he was in full costume, aside from he occasional fans who happened upon him. Heck, he’d even run around almost a full day in the suit, thanks to an army of irritatingly persistent mini-robots, and no one had even tried calling the police. Maybe it was less they didn’t notice or care, so much as they refused to believe what they see if it’s not what they expect.

Either way, didn’t keep him from doing stunts like this. Just going around in public as Kid from time to time in out of the way places.

When they reached the tower, the thief waited until his detective stepped off the path before snapping again and having the lights fade out, leaving the view of the city completely unobstructed… and them seemingly cut off from the rest of the world. He looked out over the lit buildings and streets again, smiling softly, with maybe a twinge of sadness in his eyes for a brief moment before waving an arm out to gesture at all of it to Hakuba.

“…Pretty, don’t you think?”

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba blinked as he watched the lights light and well, it was actually rather beautiful. He sucked in a breath before nodding and placed a foot on what he still believed was glass and took a hesitant step towards the other, testing, in case it couldn’t hold more then one person.

“Alright.”

It was glass. Thick, and it of course needed some support to make it across to the tower without breaking. Really, the support had been the easy part, since he just needed a few the cable hooks he’d used the first time he made a ‘bridge’ from this building. Really, it was setting out the glass panels to make the road that had been difficult…

…Though, it wasn’t like he hadn’t been planning on doing this at some point anyway. Or else he wouldn’t have been able to get this prepared in an hour at all.

Kid waited until Hakuba looked like he could walk without much trouble before giving a pleased hum and turning to stride confidently down the starlit road, cape flying around as he did. He did still keep a cautious eye out for if he felt his detective would fall, though. Game or not, he would still catch him regardless.

Hakuba closed his eyes and worked on calming down, something he’d become almost pro at before opening them again. He stared down where the thief stood, and he couldn’t see anything, but he was guessing there was glass. Didn’t really make him feel all that safe, but he wasn’t afraid of heights, so he slowly walked to the ledge.

“Just what are you planning my thief?” Hakuba toed at the area he’d seen Kid walk with his toe.

Still not answering directly, but at least the cautious stepping showed that he had Hakuba’s interest.

“Planning? Well, I did just ask…”

And the smirk returned as he brought his hand up, fingers pressed together.

And gave a snap.

The area where the thief stood started to get lit up by many small lights, spread about at random. Like a small grouping of stars. The lights continued to flicker on, back to where Hakuba was trying to test and on behind Kid, forming a path that led to the Sky Tree tower. It was… somewhat reminiscent of what he’d done during the Emperor’s Gold Seal heist, however this time… he wasn’t making an escape.

“…if you wanted to see my world.~”

Hakuba made a soft sound and rushed forward, intent on catching him, but he noticed that he wasn’t falling, and really, he was going to kill him. His heart raced and there was panic in his eyes, hand going to his chest, breaths coming out in pants.

“You bloody idiot! I thought you were jumping!”

The grin fell slightly, though amusement still flickered in his eyes.

“Then you obviously don’t know me as well as I thought you did, tantei.~”

Kid didn’t seem to be too concerned about how worried Hakuba had gotten, simply crossing his arms in front of him and tilting his head. Really, he had his glider, so he didn’t see why on earth his detective would think he’d do something like that.

…Not that the concern wasn’t appreciated. Just unnecessary.

“So now that you know I’m not planning on taking the shortest way to the bottom of the building, care to answer the question?”

Hakuba blinked as he watched him move, slight fear raising in his chest when he went onto the ledge, and he had to swallow around a lump in his throat. Thoughts of him falling, or jumping, or something going wrong, him loosing him…

“W-what would that be, my thief?”

The smirk widened.

“Would you like to take a look into my world?”

And with that, he took a couple of slow, careful steps back. Off of the ledge. And onto the air, coming to a rest a short distance from where he’d stepped off.
