britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba opened the door to the living room, which was all dark save for the fire in the fireplace, and a small reading lamp. He headed over to one of the couches and took a seat, letting his legs rest close to the edge, put on side of it. He then patted the bottom of the couch, wanting the other to come sit, but on the floor near his legs. He pulled a blanket over himself and reached for a book.

“Lean against the couch, head against my legs.” He spoke, softly and though it was an order, his tone sounded more like a question.

A silent sigh escaped him as he walked over to Hakuba. This, he wasn’t too surprised by. And if this was all he had to do, it was fine by him, though he hoped the other realised that there was a very good chance of falling asleep, if he was only to sit in front of a warm fire.

He bent down and sat with his legs under him, making sure the tail didn’t get caught under them, leaning forward to place crossed arms on the very edge for support. Then, he lowered his head just beyond them, enough to butt up against the other’s legs some, bell ringing with every move. He glanced at Hakuba and raised an brow, to ask if this way okay.

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba picked up the tail and unbuckled it, reaching forward to snap it into place and lowering it, and Kuroba’s pants, just a bit. He then stood back and placed a hand on his chin before removing the cape and folding it it and placing it on the back of the chair and looking again. Yes, that was much better, no cape to hide the tail. He clicked his tongue and headed towards the living room.

image

“Follow me.”

He watched as the other brought the last ‘present’ over and placed it, raising an eyebrow as he examined the dark haired teen. When the detective came to take off the cape, he’d been a bit confused until he realised it hid the tail from view. He normally didn’t have to think about anything not being seen under it, unless he wanted it to not be seen.

Cape now on the chair, he turned his head back to look at the addition, falling back into an unreadable expression as he reached back to lift it up, fake fur sliding over his gloves as he let it fall back. Then, he started after Hakuba.

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba picked up the collar once it was placed down, and waited for him to see the rest before moving behind him, the little bell making soft ringing sounds as he moved. “This collar has two rules.” Hakuba moved so the collar was halfway around his neck, but didn’t snap it closed just yet. “Rule number one, the only person who can remove this collar, is me. The only one who can put this collar on you, is me.” He adjusted it a bit, making sure it was loose enough.

image

“The second rule is, as long as this collar is on, you can not talk.” And with that he snapped it shut. “You can only say no, or stop if I am doing something you don’t like. Otherwise, not a word from you. If you break either of these rules, you will not be having the cake.” Hakuba let his fingers linger before pulling back. He then reached up and removed the hat from his head, picking up the cat ears and gently placing them atop his head, making sure the band was well hidden.

“Stand up so I can put on the tail.” His cheeks flushed a little at that.

Ok, that, he hadn’t expected. He lightly touched the bell with a finger, eyes narrowed and face neutral as took in what the other had said. Really, he would have followed the rules with or without the promise of cake, simply because he’d agreed to this situation in the first place.

After the ears were placed, he hesitated before nodding and pushing the chair back some so he could stand, taking a few steps to the side and drawing up his cape so that the detective could attach the tail, bell ringing as he did.

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba finished his glass of wine and picked up his plate, walked around and picked up Kuroba’s as well. He left the question hanging as he headed back to the kitchen, placing them on the table where the maid would get to it in the morning. He paused for a second, grabbing himself a glass of wine that was here in the kitchen, drank that before heading back out to stand beside Kuroba. He knelt down and picked up the box, handing it to the other, smiling a little.

image

“Next you open your present.” Hakuba waited for him to take the box before he leaned against the table slightly, watching intently.

When the detective didn’t answer and started moving to collect the plates, he got a feeling he knew what was coming. Another glance was sent to the box before the other came back and, sure enough, picked it up and held it out. He sighed inwardly as he took it and set it down on the now empty spot in front of him.

He lightly took hold of the ribbon close to the base, letting it slide through his fingers before actually pulling it from the ends. Once undone, it fell around the box and he removed the lid, raising an eyebrow at finding three more.

“…Looks more like presents, to me…” he commented as he removed them, pushing the larger box back slightly. He opened the smallest box first, flushing slightly as he heard the bell and pulled out the collar.

image

…He really did get one…

He set it out and put the box back where it had come from. After taking a second to decide, the looked in the longer box next, not too surprised at seeing the tail. And, yep, the last one had the ears.

A finger absently rubbed the fake fur as he held the band in front of him, then turned towards Hakuba.

“…And I suppose you want me to put them all on now.” A resigned statement. Not questioning. Kaito had guessed these would show up and didn’t really mind at this point. The detective had gone out of his way to make him feel more comfortable, so if Hakuba really wanted him to wear them, he would.

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba finished about half his steak before pushing it gently forward, finished. He tabbed his mouth with his napkin, before grabbing his glass and raising it to his lips to take a sip. He then placed it down and took the napkin from his lap and placed it over his plate before taking yet another sip of the wine, he needed the extra boost to help him do what he planned. It was different when the other was a neko, that was out of the blue.

Now he was going to ask him to wear them.

image

There were also the rules, only two, but neither were really that bad, they were both just to make this go smoothly, at least one of them was, the other was more for his own sake.

Hakuba let out a soft sigh and looked up at Kuroba, waiting for him to finish; but there was no rush.

Watching the other push his plate away over the edge of the glass, he waited another moment to debate about whether to continue himself. Neither the potatoes nor the steak were completely finished and it felt strange to not eat everything put in front of him… but it would feel just as strange to have the detective watch with just him eating and it wasn’t as though he were hungry to need to eat the rest…

He swirled the wine around some before setting it down, bringing his own napkin up to wipe his mouth off a bit and placing it next to his plate. A quick glance was sent to the box on the ground, but he wasn’t sure if dinner was quite considered ‘over’ yet, so he didn’t move to pick it up, instead looking back at Hakuba. He straightened as he leaned his back against the chair as he lightly crossed his arms.

“So… what do you have planned next?”

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba couldn’t help but grin at the teens gaping. He took another sip of his wine before returning to his own food, eyes flicking upwards every once in a while to watch the other. This was actually quite lovely. Having dinner, peaceful conversations, no jabs no teasing. It was pleasant and he was enjoying this. He also liked the fact  the other seemed to be enjoying his cooking, it was something he was always very proud of, considering he didn’t know many detectives who could cook a five star meal.

image

“I’m sure it’ll taste even better then it sounds.” Hakuba smirked and finished off his potatoes. “It is quite easy to make, I had all the ingredients before hand, as I always keep some spare cake bases in the freezer, the rest I made while I was waiting for dinner to cook.” Hakuba explained. “It was done just before you arrived and is sitting in the fridge, but that will be for later.”

Hakuba dabs the sides of his mouth once more and takes another sip of his wine, pouring himself another glass.

The dark haired teen was enjoying this, though he wasn’t going through his drink as quickly as the other. The food was excellent and the company was very much appreciated. He couldn’t really remember the last time he’d sat down at a table to eat with someone over a home cooked meal. It would have been before his mom had left to travel, in any case. Even if Hakuba had only invited him because the detective had gotten him as a ‘pet’ for a day…

He was happy with that.

A content hum was his only response to the explanation as he continued to eat.

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba smiled, glad that the other was enjoying their food, “You are quite welcome.” He took another sip of his wine before taking another bite of his steak, mixing it a bit with the mashed potatoes, chewing slowly before taking his napkin and gently dabbing the sides of his mouth. “Desert will be a double layered cake made with milk and white chocolate.” Hakuba explained. “In between the two layers is a chocolate and white chocolate mousse, and each layer of cake has one of the chocolates for icing, and there are shaved pieces of both on top with some whipped cream.”

image

Hakuba knows the others fondness for chocolate, and so he made something that he knew would have the other drooling, in hopes that he’ll choose to behave and do well, rather then tease and push him. Not that he would do anything too invasive, he already knew what he wanted for the day, it was more the two rules he was worried about the other following. He hoped the cake would get the other to follow them more willingly.

“All invited guests are welcome.” Hakuba explains. “Sometimes when people show up out of the blue, it is a nice surprise as well, though of course it depends on time and reasoning for them showing up.” It was vague, but so was the situation honestly. He could be referring to Kaito or KID, or of someone else entirely, but he was sure the other would understand him without the need to explain.

He would have perfectly fine not knowing what the dessert was until it was time to have it. But nope. They’d only just started the meal, and he was already wanting to skip to the end. The idea of behaving badly had already been tossed aside when he’d come into the room, but the cake was definitely a good incentive to leave it discarded.

It took a while for him to notice he’d been staring at the other, mouth slightly open, another piece of meat already on the fork. When he did realise, he quickly took the bite, trying to get the chocolate thoughts out of his head as he chewed.

“Hmm… nice to know,” He commented, “And the dessert certainly does sound great.~”

A few more bites from the plate, another small sip of the wine, and he paused.

“Something like that sounds as though it would take some time to make…”

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba cut into the steak, it was cooked just right, medium rare. He cut a small piece, and brought it to his lips, tongue darting out for a taste of the cause he’d use, not spicy, not salty, just perfect, before taking a bite. He chewed slowly, taking in the flavor of meat and sauce, chewing it thoroughly before swallowing. His eyes lifted from his plate to the other, wandering what he thought, as he worked on cutting himself a second piece, just as small and bite sized.

He liked to enjoy his food.

image

“Tell me, how do you like the steak?” He asked before taking a second bite, chewing just as slowly, as if with purpose, before lifting his wine glass and taking a small sip. “I have also prepared some dessert for later, but that will all depend on how you behave, of course.” A soft smirk graced his lips as he scooped up some mashed potato’s, creamy and whipped with some chives mixed in for flavor, and took a bite as well.

“I am not one to treat my guests poorly.” Hakuba finally replied to his earlier comment. “My mother would never forgive me if I did not treat each guest, welcome or unwelcome, no matter the circumstance, like a gentleman. I was also the one who asked you to come right after school, so of course I’d make you dinner; it is only polite."

He watched as the other started to cut into his meal, then looking down at the silverware in front of him before taking the knife and fork in hand and beginning on his own. Getting a small piece on his fork, he took a bite himself, savoring the flavour as he chewed. He didn’t respond to Hakuba’s question, nor comment about the dessert right away, instead trying some of the mashed potatoes and allowing the other to finish speaking.

”…Well, whether out of politeness or not, the food’s delicious. Thank you.“ A small laugh. "And I should hope I won’t act so badly as to not get dessert that I could only assume will be just as good.”

After another bite of steak, he finally reached over and took hold of the stem of the wine glass, carefully bringing it to his lips and taking a sip, smiling at the taste. It was soon placed down on the table again, though he did at least keep it a bit closer.

“So… which am I normally considered as? Welcome or unwelcome, I mean.”

Whether he was asking about Kaito or Kid, he didn’t make clear. Nor did he intend to. He was just curious to hear the other’s answer.

Hakuba took out the handkerchief, which he’d already doused with disinfectant and scrubbed it against the thief’s lips before kissing him, briefly, a small peck, on the lips.

Kid had wondered what the detective was doing when he’d come close, but his lips being attacked with disinfectant hadn’t been anything he’d have expected.

Nor had the sudden, short kiss.

The thief stared off into space for a moment before blinking, mentally shaking his head to come back to awareness as a small smirk tugging at his lips. There may have also been a slight blushing, but he ignored that. He wasn’t used to being on the receiving end of people’s lips, an it had certainly caught him off guard. Especially coming from Hakuba. Though, as quickly as it had gone and as hurried as the detective had seemed to get it over with, he could guess that it hadn’t been because the other wanted to…

“…Is this you acting on those roses you gave me quite some time ago? Because that certainly took some time.~”

He paused and the smirk fell into a softer smile as he put his hands in his pockets a flash of what might have been sadness going across his face.

“…But thank you. Even if you might not have done it willingly, I appreciated it.”

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba placed a napkin in his lap as he heard the door open and he gently grasped his wine glass from underneath, placing the stem between his pointer and middle finger, eyes finally leaving the table to glance at his guest. His gaze ran from the the top hat on his head, down to the monocle on his face, then to the suite and cape, down to the pants and shoes. Yes, he looked every bit Kaitou KID, and this really only solidified his belief, but there would be no arguing tonight.

“The outfit suites you well.” Hakuba spoke before taking a sip of his wine and gesturing to the chair. “Take a seat.” He smiled and placed the glass down. “You may open the box before or after dinner, which ever you choose will be fine with me.” Hakuba reached for his fork and knife, having already said Grace by himself while waiting for the other, though his eyes never left Kuroba.

image

Inside the box, Kuroba would find three more. One long, one large square and one smaller square, all done up in blue ribbon. Inside the long box would be a gently folded, rather fluffy, cat tail, that was attached to a belt. Inside the larger square box would be a pair of cat ears, fluffy to match the tail, attached to a headband that was dark and would be hidden in his hair.

Finally, inside the smaller box would be a cat collar, blue to match his eyes, with a small bell on it, that would make a very soft ringing sound when the other moved.

“…Thanks for the compliment. I think I’ll wait ‘til after.”

He turned the box in his hands some as pulled the chair back, reaching behind him to pull his cape to the side as he sat down and placing the box on the floor next to him for now. If he was right, he’d rather not see what’s inside yet, and if he was wrong… well, it wouldn’t hurt to see it any later.

Now his eyes finally turned to look at the other directly, not too surprised to find the other staring back. It was likely the detective was thinking of how he knew his classmate to be a wanted thief, and the lack of snide comments was pleasant.

“…I’ll admit, this is a lot nicer than I would have expected…”

Not that I really knew what to expect in the first place, though… And it’s only just begun…

His gaze shifted and a hand reached out to pick up his own napkin and set it in his own lap. He had calmed down since the ‘pet’ situation had first been mentioned…. but it would probably take some time before he was completely at ease, even if he could hide what tension remained behind a mask.
