britishhsdetectivehakuba:
When you get home, you don’t see Kaito around, but there’s a note on the table. “I wanted to give you and early present before we went to London, but you’ll have to find it first~ Don’t worry, of course you get a hint. ‘I cannot talk, but always put on a show. Though Lisa’s still one that’s more famous to know. I keep watch, with ever present smile. To learn anything more, you must be worthwhile. And since you have the trust of my kin…Perhaps you should give me a spin.’ I’ll be waiting, tantei~”

“I wouldn’t expect anything else from you, Mon Voleur.” Hakuba’s eyes scanned the paper, humming softly to himself. I cannot talk, but always put on a show. Though Lisa’s still one that’s more famous to know… Hakuba clicked his tongue. I keep watch, with ever present smile… “My my were you referring to Mona Lisa, I wonder?” Now, what would the Mona Lisa have to do with anything, true it was a famous paintin- Hakuba chuckled and shook his head. “So, a painting.”
Hakuba leaned against the table and tilted his head a little. To learn anything more, you must be worthwhile. He hummed a little to himself. And since you have the trust of my kin… “Toichi?” Hakuba blinked, there was a large painting of Toichi in Kaito’s room. Hakuba made his way there and stepped into the room. “Just what are you up to, Mon Voleur…" Perhaps you should give me a spin… No, it couldn’t be… Hakuba reached forward and pushed on the painting and was shocked when there was no resistance what so ever.
He hadn’t exactly expected this to happen.

He let out a a shocked yelp as he started to fall forward, and he tried to grasp onto the side of the painting, but that just swung shut behind him, and instead of landing on his face he landed on his ass with a wince. “Ow…”

To say Kaito was feeling anxious right now would be a huge understatement.
He paced around in a circle, wondering if maybe he still had time to go and retrieve the note before Saguru had a chance to see it, and put it off for a bit longer, maybe new years or something… Just… aaaugh! Yes, he could do that, but then he’d be carrying around guilt for a while over backing out…

The teen sighed and adjusted the hat for what might have been the hundredth time before letting his hand fall to lightly touch the monocle on his face. The costume was on, the room was straightened up, heck he’d even gone ahead and dusted the lesser used areas. He was prepared for his detective in every way… just… not in mindset.
This had been weighing on the magician’s mind for a very long time. Even more when Saguru finally said his feelings and they’d started unofficially-officially going out. Really they’d never explicitly asked the other out, if had been more of a natural progression.
But as much as he loved his detective and trusted him, he’d never been able to completely give his secret away. Not about being Kid, because that had been very well said long ago, regardless of all the banter and jabs and avoidance of accusations. No, it was about the main question Saguru asked him the very first time they met.

Why.
Why was he Kid, why did he steal, what sort of reason would an admittedly mischievous high school student take up the occupation of an international thief and go on a moonlit chase with the police from time to time only to return what he stole many of those heists.
Just thinking about this, what he wanted to say, what he’d kept hidden from all but the ones he knew as family… It was enough to make it difficult to fall into the calmness and patience of the thief. Instead, Kaito fidgeted with his outfit, unable to sit still. It took some serious debating whether or not to get his cards out and play with them, just to keep himself occupied.
The magician froze when he heard his detective’s voice in his ear, coming from the listening device he’d put under the table so that he could be ready when the other came. Yeah… bit late to back out now…

Quickly, he stepped off into the shadows, just behind the car. He’d planned some of this out, but honestly, Kaito was having a hard enough time thinking straight just waiting, much less what might happen when Saguru did come in. But the general idea right now would be that his detective would come in, likely surprised at the hidden room, look around some, and then Kid would come out, ever the showman, and give a calm welcome, probably greeting the other with a kiss…
Wait, no, stop thinking about it, his detective just pushed the door open.
And promptly fell onto the ground.
Kaito stood in the dark area and stared for a moment, shocked himself, before a snort left him, which he futilely tried to cover with a gloved hand. And it was as though all the pent up nervous energy escaped with it, because he started laughing, a light, true laugh.
Really, just what were the odds of something like that happening? Even if he’d fallen through the first time himself, that Saguru would as well… he hadn’t even considered it~
…Well, kind of silly to stay hiding now, isn’t it?
The thief walked over to the other, wide smile spread across his face, and reached a hand down to him.

"Need some help, there?~”
