Morning after this.

Warm.

The thief shifted, turning to the source of the heat he had felt on his back and curling up closer to it. After a few drowsy minutes, he slowly became aware that, nice though it felt, it wasn’t exactly normal to have something warm next to him when he slept. Eyelids carefully cracked open and it took all of half a second for them to completely widen when he saw the familiar cowlick. Confusion, then a small bit of fear flashed across his face as the memories of the previous night came flooding back and he quickly sat up, blanket sliding down as he did. A quick glance to the right told him that his monocle had remained on, though he hadn’t been at all worried about it really. His hat… there, still where Shinichi had put it. And he could see his shoes on the floor nearby.

Quick assessment over and all things accounted for, he looked back down at the other, face neutral as he contemplated what to do. His first instinct was to flee, honestly. As much as he’d been trying to hide anything related to Kid from… well, everyone, even just saying that the first had been murdered was sure to set off detective’s curiosity…. And he didn’t think he’d be willing to answer any more questions.

Or… actually… it was probably more truthful to say he was scared.

Afraid that he would say more. That the flood of secrets he’d been keeping in for so long would break out and he’d tell everything. The small truth that he’d gotten out last night, though it had hurt to say itself, had also made him feel so relieved. Telling Shinichi just a small part of the weight he carried with him made Kid feel like it was lighter, made it hurt a bit less. If he said anything more, he was worried the feeling would take over and he wouldn’t be able to stop.

…No wonder some people like confessionals…

He looked down at the blanket, eyes softening, though the rest of his face didn’t change, and carefully transferred it on top of the detective, hesitating before trailing his fingers down the side of the other’s face. They lingered for a moment, then he sighed and pulled away, reaching over to take his hat by the brim and place it back over his mess of hair before sliding off the bed, ignoring the shoes as he left the room.

Might as well see if I can at least find coffee or something for when he wakes up…
