“Maju-Kai… do you hate me? Is that why you’re treating me like this?” Tears streak down his face, but that’s normal during full moons. “I don’t understand why you aren’t happier for me or my double.”
He’s frighteningly sincere.
“…I don’t hate you entirely, no. I’m not happy about the influence and what you’ve done.”
Overall, he’s more sad or scared of the gem possessed ones than angry. Yeah, not liking blatant uncaring for people dying, but he’s fairly certain the Kaitos, if they weren’t possessed, wouldn’t like it either. So… it’s hard to be entirely angry.
“Oh, Maju-Kai!~ Look at how full the moon is tonight! Look, look! Isn’t it beautiful? I think it is. You do too, right? Right?”
“Well, yes… It is pretty. Not sure how I feel about you getting excited for it, though…”
Yes, he still likes full moons. Though the appreciation for it goes down a bit when the one affected by Pandora is a little too happy to see it.
“…If Pandora messes with your mind that badly… then I’m definitely going to to everything in my power to destroy my piece when I find it. Did you forget why? Do you want to make more people like us? Broken families and doubts, hating those who took the people they loved from them? It’s not wrong to care. It’s not starting a cycle. People dying, people changing… I don’t want that to happen. If you’ve forgotten what it was like, how painful it was, how wrong it felt… then I can’t help you. But I’m not going to follow your path.”
“… So now you know! We’ve both, ah, caused deaths. It’s not that big a deal.”
“Not that big…? Yes, it is!”
Angry, maybe a bit, though it’s more shocked right now, and hurt, in all honesty. He knows his other selves aren’t him, but to have ones that just so casually talk about killing people…
“Do you realise what you do… Did you even go through what happened to Connery-san? With Kenta? It’s not just the lives of people that die, their families… How can you-!?”
He managed a half-hearted grunt that was probably meant to convey a sort of interest, but even that seemed like too much energy, and he was unable to repeat the sound.
But Kaito was curious, if a bit hesitant, to know what place his counterpart was talking about. A hand struggled to reach up before flopping back down to his side. Exhaustion had claimed much of that young vitality and sucked it into nothingness.
A building with blood on its floor, perhaps?
The thief paused again before continuing.
“You remember where that crazy scientist took you? On a cliff? The explosion took a lot out, but it’s not like it could get rid of everything, and the cliff itself wasn’t damaged. …Might feel a little like camping, but no one goes there…” He leaned into the other more to offer some reassurance. “And if you want company, I don’t mind staying a while. Just a suggestion anyway.”
Just let him lean against you, Maju-Kai. He needs support today. A place to rest and sleep and maybe not wake up for a week, but he can’t get everything he needs.
Not today. No tomorrow.
He waited a few minutes in silence before looking at his counterpart again, pensive, before letting out a soft breath.
“…You know, you don’t always have to try staying in the city… I’ve thought a lot about how you need to get along, and… well, I do remember a place to not be found. And no dimension hopping either. Not in the… best of condition by any means, but there were still parts of it left from what I remember.”
He paused, looking sideways, then finally back down. …The thief really doesn’t like seeing the other when he’s down. So he might be picking a bit at random, but he does just want to help.
“…Might not have the best of memories attached to it either… But it’d keep you from having to move around so much for a while…”
A hand grabs his counterpart’s own and squeezes. Squeezes hard once before letting go. Today, normal Kaito is verbally unresponsive.
Kid blinked at the squeeze, pausing before relaxing afterward, lightly pressing into the lean more
– not a bump, just a little bit of pressure-
before pulling back slightly and settling into a more comfortable position against his other self. He doesn’t mind the silence, he knows there are times quiet is needed.
Kid just smiled at the comment, then blinked when the other turned, hug tightening a bit at the head coming down. After a moment of hesitation, he gave a softer smile. “…Even if it’s not for long… Do you want to stay at my place for a while?”
“Where’s ‘your place’?” he questioned, swallowing a yawn. “Sure, I’ll go. I can trust myself.” Kaito flashed that grin. “Can always trust in me.” His grin got bigger. What a nerd.
The thief mirrored the grin as he pulled back from the hug.
“I don’t know… We are known for being unexpected, aren’t we?” All in tease, and he reached into a pocket to pull out an amethyst pendant. “…And I’d think you’d know where ‘my place’ might be.” Just… not exactly in this universe. Even with his dimension hopping, he can’t actually stay to long outside of his. Same should apply to his other selves, and…
…With what this one deals with, the visit might be nice.
