   This was humiliating.

   The last thing Conan wanted was to feel the thief picking at his hair like a monkey. He didn’t need to be groomed or preened, but there was no point in jerking away. KID was determined to help, and all the diminutive detective could do was reluctantly accept it.

   Cheeks pink and head held still, he allowed his hair to be smoothed out. It still didn’t feel right, but it was better than the mess he had woken up with that morning. At least, it was until he felt it being mused up again.

   “O—Oi!” Conan reached up and tried with his own hands to fix the mess KID had created, eyes narrowed venomously. “Do not make me look like you.”

“Aww, c’mon. Might be even more popular if you did~”

Kid grinned wide, largely ignoring the glare as he let the other fix the slight mess. Hey, at least there were less actual tangles, it should be easy enough to smooth out again, right?

The thief then paused and straightened, bringing a hand to his chin in thought.

“Though… speaking of looking like me… I think you’ve still yet to make due on dressing as me…” He smirked. “…Maybe we should do that now, while your hair already seems to be set?~”

“Kaito Kid eh? It’s been quite some time, hasn’t it?” Conan said, drawing his attention twoards the phantom theif.

“Has it? I barely noticed… Bit busy recently… Also, since you seem to have forgotten how to greet people, hello, tantei-kun~”

“Ya would think so wouldn’t ya? But yer just bad fer someones health in general if ya want ta get specific about it. An really I can’t run off ta Tokyo on an invite. So thanks fer the offer but I rather not.”

“I’d like to think I at least keep the police in good physical health, if nothing else, much as they like to chase~ Of course, I wouldn’t ask you to come to Tokyo on my behalf. Not if I’m actually wanting to expect you. I’m sure I could come to the Kansai region a few times. I may like Tokyo, but I am an international thief. If I could show up in Paris, I don’t think it’d be too much trouble to step a little further out here in Japan.”

The Azran Crystal Heist || @moonlightmajutsushi

flora-reinhold-cosplay:

“Professor! How did you come across the gem?”

“How was the rest of your expedition?”

“What do you think this gem will reveal about the Azran civilization?”

Professor Hershel Layton, archaeologist and professor of the subject, was bombarded with question after question regarding the turquoise, egg-shaped stone tucked away in his trunk. He swam through the sea of reporters, occasionally answering a question here and there, and finally broke free of the crowd and hurried back to his office.

~~~
Flora had been waiting for what seemed like a decade at the flat, absentmindedly staring at the telephone and hoping for a call. He should be back by now… she glowered. He said he’d be back today and would call me to his office…
As if her grumblings had been heard, Flora shot up like a rocket as the telephone sent out a loud ring. She raced over to the receiver, pressing it eagerly to her ear.
“Papa!” she greeted cheerfully. “I’m so glad you’re back…”
She paused, listening for a moment. “Yes, yes; I’m alright. I took care of everything you asked me to.”
Another pause. Flora blinked in interest. “Really?”
She nodded.
“I’ll be right there!”
It hadn’t been nearly as hard to plant the listening device on the man’s coat as he thought it might. Not all that surprising, considering the sheer amount of people who’d surrounded him, actually. That had been a surprise in itself, seeing just how popular the university professor was in this area. Very few hadn’t known who he was talking about when he’d asked around for information on Hershel Layton, and most were more than happy to tell him all about the gentleman.
Ah, right. That was a word that had come up constantly. Gentleman. As well as dedicated, kind, brilliant, always in a top hat, and a puzzle lover.
Kaito liked the guy already.
However, personal opinions aside, he did still have to prepare for his job. He’d heard about the Azran a few times in his research and about some of what they’d managed to accomplish. So when a new artefact was claimed to have been discovered, and a crystal on top of that… Well, it had caught his interest. Might have been a bit rude to send a notice so soon after the man had returned from the expedition to even get the gem, but the magician couldn’t exactly stay in London to wait until too much more time had passed. The break from school wouldn’t last forever.
So, with a small sigh, he leaned up against the university wall and pressed the earpiece in so that he could hear what was being said inside.
Always best to know what you’re up against, after all.
Kid tensed for a moment before allowing himself to relax. He hadn’t really expected the sudden trapping, but he wasn’t really too worried by it either. If this were about catching him because of his job, she could have done something else.
A moment passed and the thief looked down at her with a soft smile.
“…And why would you think I would want to escape, ojou-san?”
Well, this was… interesting, to say the least. Now that Ran actually had him there, she really didn’t know what to do. And his question threw her a bit as well.
“I thought maybe you thought I wanted to either turn you in or lay you out cold on this floor. You seem to have more faith in me this time. Did something change?”
image
“Well, if you had wanted to do either of those, you wouldn’t have needed to do this,” he looked back and forth between the arms a couple of times before returning his attention to her, “If you were able to ‘trap’ me, you would have just as easily been able to attack. Though, I am curious as to why you did suddenly do this…”
   ”I don’t know, Kaito. I ain’t good at thinkin’ of this kind of stuff. I mean, we’re only pretending to pull a heist as KID, right? I don’t know anything about disguises, but m’ brother has somethin’ we could pretend t’ steal. If I tell ‘im about it, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.”
   There was another twinge of doubt that made its way from the back of her mind to her stomach. She wasn’t brilliant in any way, but she wanted nothing more than to get the note to KID thanks to Kaito’s convincing.
“Your brother?”
Maybe her niece’s father? Come to think of it, he’d gotten so distracted with the card, he’d forgotten to ask about how that trick from before went… But that could wait until everything was settled.
“I mean, it’s great if we can actually tell the person it’s not actually being stolen, especially if they’re related to you, but what exactly does he have that would be a possible ‘target’?”
It had been a long day.
Basil was stuck under a bus stop, scowling, a late afternoon shower having started and him without an umbrella. He tapped his foot in irritation, chin resting in his palm as he watched the rain.
The evidence they’d been counting on had been too damaged to ascertain anything from it, and their only lead was lost.
But if he’d been a bit more careful in preserving it—!
He was expecting anything but the slightly rough brush of his hair. The scientist initially glanced up in confusion, though he wasn’t going to stop the other— it was the distraction he wanted. And it felt good.
“…Why’d you do that?”
“I’ll tell the mayor to change the name to Bring-an-umbrella-or-you’re-going-to-get-soaked-it-rains-nine-days-out-of-ten Valley.”
Basil snickered, raising his hand to stifle the laughs unconsciously before dropping it— nobody was around— the rain would drown out everything. Hell they could sing and nobody would hear.
“…Work. I’m a forensic tech but the evidence was too damaged to get anything from and—!”
He sighed.
“Sorry, I’m just frustrated…”
“Ah, it’s fine…”
Forensics? Kaito had definitely underestimated the guy’s age, if he was already working at that kind of job. Not that it really mattered, he supposed. And he hadn’t really noticed the other was irritated, else he wouldn’t have just come up and started messing with his hair. The small beetle must’ve caught more of his focus than he thought… At least the guy hadn’t gotten more annoyed by it.
“I’m sure it gets stressful when something like that happens…” The magician paused and brought his arms back down before continuing.
“…What kind of evidence was it?”
Basil grew sleepy as the stranger ruffled though his hair, eventually closing his eyes while his head lolled on his shoulder. He was almost disappointed when the hand pulled away, and after blinking a few times he looked back— embarrassment rising at the sight of the small insect. It had been raining for a good half hour, and if the ladybug had hung on before it started—
“How long were they on me…?”
He slowly extended a finger towards the spotted bug as he spoke.
“Hmm… I only just saw it myself, so I’m not sure. But probably not for too long, if you hadn’t noticed yet.”
He moved the hand forward slightly to let the beetle climb onto the other. When it did, he stepped away a bit to brush some of the water off his own head.
“I guess I should have said something before messing with your hair like that, though… I thought you’d seen me when I came over,” the magician said, taking a seat beside him.
“you’re Kuroba Kaito right? anyhow i just came here to say that next time, I’ll aim at your family jewels.”
As soon as he caught sight of her, a surge of fear shot through him. Their last meeting hadn’t exactly gone well, and what she had just said definitely wasn’t doing anything to abate his nervousness.
She can’t possibly know, though. If she did…. I probably wouldn’t even be able to stand right now.
The magician put on his best poker face to answer her, tilting his head and giving a confused smile.
“Umm…. Okay? It’s true that I’m Kuroba Kaito….. but, I’m not sure why you’re telling me this.”
sera narrowed her eyes at the boy. the anon did say he would act like he didnt know what she was talking about didnt they? although she didnt know this kid, who WAS vaguely familiar, she was a little curious herself as to what the anon was talking about. as long as she was here, she figured she would mess with him a little. just to see if she could actually get it out of him. unless of course the anon was lying. “i guess i’ll find out now wont i?" a smirk rose on her face.
image
"hmm. you know, i figured you would say something like that. but you really do know dont you? dont play coy with me." she said feeling clever. she wasnt lying after all. she really did expect for him to say something like that. and despite the confused look on his face, he did give off a slight vibe in his otherwise ordinary tone that said “guilty”
"Even if you say that, I can’t exactly know of a reason I was never made aware of,” he answered, averting his eyes, “Though, I am curious as to why you would aim for the ‘jewels’ of someone you hadn’t even met…”
He did kind of want to get away as soon as he could, but was worried that if he looked like he wanted to avoid her, the situation would just get worse…
She kept eating until her plate were empty. After drinking all of her soda, she looked at Kaito.
“Do you want to go somewhere else now or do you want to stay longer?”
After finishing his last bite of cake, Kaito took a sip from his cup.
image
“Well, unless there was something else here you wanted me to see, I’d vote for going somewhere else.”
He had started noticing a few of the people who were still around who had seen the show glancing over at their table now and again, giggling. It probably didn’t mean anything, but it was making him a bit uncomfortable nevertheless…
The magician picked up the strawberry from where it had been left on his plate.
“Did you have anywhere in mind?” he asked, popping the fruit into his mouth.
