…Well, not the worst thing a heist target could do…

Consequences of looking for cursed gems, he supposed. But that doesn’t help when the thief needs something like, oh, opposable thumbs to actually hold the dang thing. It was too large to fit in his mouth, too. As it was, he focused on trying to move it along with his paws, maybe at least get it somewhere hidden before he tries to find out what to do. If he needed the jewel to reverse his sudden change of species, might not be the best idea to let it be returned just yet.

…Though moving something shiny around like this probably wasn’t the best idea either. It’s getting really distracting…

…Yep. Gonna play with the shiny.

Tail waving happily behind him, Kaito hopped on the stone, causing it to roll away along the ground, though it didn’t take long before he chased it down to catch it with his paws.

And before too long, his ears twitched. Footsteps. He looked up, standing defensively over the gem, ears back at the approaching figure. No. His shiny. Wait, no, jewel. His jewel. Still didn’t want people taking it, but should probably try to not get so distracted…

Heiji chuckled and moved to pick up the kitten. Okay so getting scratched might not be so bad if he could get the little thing to eat. And honestly he would have felt bad if he left it up here by itself.

“Looks like yer comin with me.” He said. “ ‘cause I ain’t leavin ya behind ta starve.”

He blinked, then hissed as the detective reached down to pick him up, not running or scratching. Instead, he tried, largely unsuccessfully to get the jewel in his paws at least, but it didn’t get far before falling to the ground again.

At that, Kaito did unsheathe his claws, struggling to get out. Really, he had nothing against the other for trying to help. If anything, he’d be grateful for Hattori’s thoughtfulness towards a random cat in this situation… Just not when his actions could separate him from the one decent lead on getting back to normal, and for that matter, preferably when said cat wasn’t formerly himself.
