“…”

“I suddenly feel the need to play the Super Mario series…” Goin’ in the lava, big over-compensating spiked koopa. Doesn’t matter how fun you are to see in the rpgs, that line won’t go without punishment.

Casual friendly reminder that ‘smiles and laughter are always good, but never forget your poker face’ is not a quote from Kuroba Kaito/Kaitou Kid. It’s stated every time it’s said that those words are what Toichi taught to his son, and said son would appreciate it more if credit was given where due.

(I

always

get a huge urge

to RP Kaito Lupin whenever I read that oneshot.

I can’t, because I already do a bad job keeping up with the two muses I have, and he’d be even stranger to try and get into the RP fandom as his own person in some ways… Since he’d more likely just be taken for an AU Kaito, even if Lupin came first… He essentially is Kaito, just… think about it.

He’d be a slightly more normal character, granted. He’s not a professional and international thief, nor was his father, despite his name being a double hit for ‘thief’. He causes problems at school and steals test scores, but not overly a criminal like his more well-known successor. Still a magician, still far too skilled and bright for his age, but… no Kid.

Lupin is a Kaito that never became Kid. Technically, we never even hear anything about his parents, so they could still be alive. And you actually see Aoko’s mom.

…I half want this, or that we at least get a possible special for it at some point, like they did with some of Gosho’s other short stories… Unlikely to happen, as Magic Kaito has overshadowed it’s precursor, but I can dream. An MK anime was a dream up until a few years ago, so… I can at least hope for a special. (Pft. Since the first MK special was ‘The Secret Birth of Kaitou Kid’, it could be considered, the real secret birth of Kaitou Kid.)

How many of the new MK fans from the anime side are gonna know about the first Kaito, hmm….)

(…After the Movie 3 post about Kaito landing on the building he flew over, and seeing the DC Rewatch question about the circumstance, I feel the need to explain more of why I came up with that as the explanation. Though I’ll say right off that I can’t defend Kaito’s not getting injured by the bullet entirely, much like Conan really shouldn’t have been able to take the force of one up close at all later. Kid at least got affected by that force, but unless it just managed to hit the rim of his monocle to break it, but put the bullet off enough not to actually hit him… yeah, he should have at least gotten a scratch to his cheek there from a glancing hit. Maybe he covered it up, though, we don’t know. Kaito’s luck and Conan defying physics aren’t easy to even try and explain.

How and where he fell, however, is a different story.

First off: Why I believe he fell in the building (which looks to be an aquarium).

Main point: He did fly over it. And because of that, most likely had to land there.

image

He’s heading for it in this picture.

image

And it’s where Scorpion is aiming.

image
image

Scorpion holds the gun directly in front.

image

And is facing parallel to the bridge. Which goes directly to that building. If Kid had been anywhere but over it, either to Scorpion’s left, closer to the water, or beyond the building to Kid’s right as he approaches, Scorpion wouldn’t have been able to get a shot. And we know that’s the bridge Conan runs under while chasing Kid. Which leads to another thing.

image
image

After passing under the bridge, Conan made a turn and down another way to get to the water. Right beside it. And while I don’t have another screenshot handy, you can see he’s near enough to a building to see the steps. Very likely the same building that’s the center of all of this.

image

So, via bad paint skills, this is likely Conan’s path. Now, since the shot was taken parallel to the bridge, Kid’s position was not one that would have allowed him to make it to the water. It doesn’t look that far on here, but it’s enough to cause a problem, and remember, at the time, his glider was of absolutely no use. The frame had broken, and wouldn’t be able to glide at all. He’d not be able to go vertical enough to reach the water from there in a freefall, he’d hit the pavement. Hence why it’s more likely he landed on the building he was shot above. It’s closer, being high up. And he may have gotten a bit of vertical distance, but not enough to carry him to the water.

image

So I personally believe he just landed close enough for things to be thrown over, out of sight of the shooter, and to where people would think he wasn’t where he was. Police and Conan thought he landed in the water, and maybe Scorpion as well. I doubt anyone actually checked the building, or, if they did, Kaito would have had time to get out while the police mobilised from ‘Kid heist prep mode’ to ‘search for the possibly drowned thief’ mode.

Again, can’t speak for the bullet, but I really, really don’t think he ever made it to that water at all.)

(Actually, as I’m doing these screenshots…. yes we want the robot for reasons, but we need the underwater pirate one. Why? Because it kills so many things people assume about Kaito. And gives an idea to how he views enemies in general.)

((Just gon’ keep the images big this time, btw.))

(Yes)

(Kaito is still afraid of fish.)

(But he doesn’t want any danger to happen around him just to get rid of them.)

(And not afraid to go interact with them if they can’t bother him.)

(He’s not helpless in the slightest. Sure, a ton of guys with guns is hard to deal with, or a ton of people in general that he might not want to hurt. But even without his card gun, he can defend himself. Look at him, his hands are in his freakin’ pockets here. And note he didn’t kick Silver in the face. He has the skill to, if he can aim so well as to just disarm him, so he probably could be a bit more violent if he wanted. Not saying he’d be excellent at hand to hand, but he should know enough to be able to fight people off.)

(He doesn’t have a problem aiming a real gun at people to use as a threat. Would he kill? No, most likely not. But his finger is on the trigger, so he’s prepared to shoot. If he had to.)

(I’ll admit, I just love this line, or any translation of. True, he has no option but to trust Silver right now, but that he’s confident enough to say it to the person who just tried to kill him and threaten Aoko says a lot. And means he’s capable of trusting even enemies.)

(And he really does need the help. He could do literally nothing due to not having enough air here. He didn’t save them. Or, you could argue he did, for encouraging Silver and saying he trusted him to begin with. But he himself was actually helpless to save them and needed to rely on the other here. How often do we actually get to see Kid not be able to do something on his own. Not to anything at all?)

(But people still wont always go along with him, even after helping. He doesn’t win everyone he meets over completely.)

(And)

(Similar to Conan)

(He can’t always save everyone. He can’t always help. Granted, Conan’s Moonlight Sonata case hit him harder than Silver sending Kid to safety and going down, but it’s still here. Also not as traumatising to Kid as Nightmare is later, but it’s still a good example that he’s not perfect and he doesn’t always win at everything. He tried to get through to Silver and save him, but failed. That it happened later with Nightmare, with the added hit of knowing Kenta, it was probably bigger because something like this would have happened already. They were similar, and Nightmare was far worse.

And I just really have feelings for the older chapters that the animations seem to try and avoid, really…)
