Kaito took a few ‘steps’ forward. So far so good, but this wasn’t getting any less weird. “We’ll see how I do.” Normally walking on his hands wasn’t a problem.
Normally. “Ow.” He hadn’t lasted anywhere near as long as he had hoped he would. He had only lasted seven ‘steps’ before he fell over.
The small magician had been look back, watching the other warily, so when the almost inevitable fall came, it wasn’t much of a surprise. What did come as a surprise was the direction. His direction to be precise, and a small moment of panic shot through him when he knew he couldn’t move out of the way while he was carrying the tub of wat-
Splash!
…So much for trying to keep that with them…
It took him half a second to get his bearings after being knocked down, and a full second before a violent shiver went through his body at feeling – and knowing, but touch was more the concern – the other’s lower half on top of him. Not even going to pause to think, the boy’s already moving out from under the bigger Kaito, a little frantically. He’ll still stay nearby, probably pick the now-empty tub back up, it was more startling and extremely uncomfortable to feel than anything else. Give him a few minutes, and then he’ll make sure the other’s alright.
“Investigation reveals tampering with memory logs is present. I do not know who repaired me. They do not allow me to keep this information. I cannot conclude why. Because I cannot access who maintains me I cannot ask the Repairman why I cannot remember them.”
Robo sat down. He was trying to interact with humans on a less artificial level. Sitting down lessened tension, he had read.
Kaito remained standing, though his shoulder did relax when the robot sat down. It’s harder to suddenly act while sitting down, which made it even more clear the other didn’t plan on doing anything to him. For now, at least.
The information about not being allowed to remember who fixed the robot worried him more. For all he knew, they just didn’t want the other to randomly come to them, but it didn’t make sense…
“Why would someone fix you and not let you know who they were? They couldn’t have known what you did before, because if they could access you memory to see that, I should already have more trouble… What reason could they have to keep their identity hidden…“
…It made him uneasy. Somehow, even more than the fact that the robot that had tried to kill him before was back, the one who brought him back made him wary.
Because for the life of him, he couldn’t think of a positive or innocent explanation as to why they’d tamper with Robo’s memory like that…
He goes to look something up, then comes back with a piece of paper.
As the Fifth Doctor once explained to Turlough, parallel universes were a specialised form of alternate universe — “alternative universes [that existed] in parallel with each other” — but the terms weren’t complete synonyms. A parallel universe had no impact upon another parallel universe; it was “separated only by a millisecond of time and a nanometre of space, without ever having contact.” Conversely, a fully alternate universe was when, because of the inherent weakness at the point that one universe split from the other, one timeline actually destroyed the other. “See? Even with that, tantei-kun and I shouldn’t know each other if he’s technically in my other self’s universe…”
“Yeah, I’ll just carry jars of gel around.” It was going to take more than one coat to keep that mess down, and he wasn’t sure it was worth the glued- together look.
Conan frowned.
“Wait, you actually keep those things in your house?”
Kaito might have childishly stuck out his tongue a bit at the other for the gel comment coupled with that face. Fitting, considering his size for the little time remaining, He was just saying how the hair could be fixed, didn’t mean it had to be done.
But he blinked a couple of times at the question, tilting his head slightly in thought.
“Well, I’m not sure how it is for him. I kinda do. They aren’t actually in the house itself, more an enclosure attached to it, but I do tend to leave a way for them to get in from time to time. They are trained, tantei-kun. They know where to stay, and when to come when I need them. You’ve had experience with one before, albeit while she was injured, you might have some idea of how they behave.”
“Mops, pretty girl, no dressing up…” Conan muttered to himself, fingers still working at his hair along the back of his head. Situating his bangs wasn’t nearly as hard as getting the back to stay flat and for his cowlick to remain in place.
Damn hair!
“So you’re telling me it’s not safe to leave the house? Great,” he scoffed and let his hands fall, “how can standing having your hair like this? It’s everywhere.”
“It’s not that bad… If you had gel, it’d be easy to style into place. Besides…” He grinned. “No one would even be able to tell when you have bedhead.”
He paused, feeling like he was forgetting something… Oh, right!
“If you’re staying at the house… mind the doves. I’m not entirely sure how my other self has them, with his situation, and it’s kinda different between everyone anyway, but if they’re there, you have to take care of them.“
“Don’t give me that look. If I had answers, I’d give them to you.”
Sigh. “…Well, I can at least give advice… Avoid the mops, don’t let the pretty girl with long dark hair and a ton of fanboys get you – you’ll know her when you see her -, and don’t dress as Kid unless you plan on being a walking target for everyone from police, to fans, to… not as big of fans. The one you got is also a fugitive you know, so keep that in mind. Also, that hair isn’t going to stay like that. Move around enough, and it’ll get messy again very quickly, especially the back part.”
Just now sure how involved he could be in all of this, to be honest. Interesting though it was.
He’s just going to put a hand on the little guy’s face, “Shh… No.”
“…I don’t think you get how confusing this would be… I interact with tantei-kun in my universe, and other mes in between universes. If one of my alternate selves swaps with tantei-kun, would that mean he wouldn’t have any of the interactions with me? Or is it treated like a web, tantei-kun can have somehow interactions and memories with multiple Kaitos and remember them, even if he’s been separated from the universe he was in with me? Most interactions between the same characters are separate, but if they’re swapped within their personal universe… You really don’t get how much of a headache I can cause going through all of this…”
“Wait, how does that work? Is tantei-kun swapped with just that specific Kaito, or is it does any Kaito that wants to talk with him has to be using his body? …As one who deals with alternate universe selves, I think this is an important question. Am I him, or do I treat him as me?”
