“You know, I have half-a-mind to find you now and see if this ‘phone dying when I’m around thing’ actually works.” He plucked the card up and looked it over, then scowled at the transmitter.
He had to be close enough to shoot this thing accurately, but he couldn’t find him from where he was standing now. Dammit.
And good luck trying to find him. He’s in his ‘incognito’ clothes right now, and he sure as heck wasn’t staying near after getting the card in place, so he just casually wandered off like any other random passerby. Didn’t want to test how close he’d have to be for it to take effect, so he’ll stick with his safety of ‘card shot’ distance and then stay in range for the transmitter to work.
The thief does know how not to bring attention to himself. Sometimes.
“Oi, oi… Give me a break, it’s not like I use my phone to just help me steal things. I do have a more normal life I’d like it to be working in, too. I doubt you’d be happy to get phone troubles, hmm, tantei-kun?”
This is how they’re going to communicate? Childish. “Ever heard of a phone charger?”
“That won’t help as much on the go, now would it? Do you really think I’d have time to let it charge to be useful if you happen to show up at a heist? More than a little important I keep working communication on me if I have it.”
Not that he always does, but that’s beside the argument. If he has Jii working with him, they need to keep in touch, and a dead phone would not be welcome.
”You’re holding up the line…” That wasn’t the real reason behind him approaching the teen, but he wasn’t about to admit that he’d felt some concern. Although, now that he had approached the teen, he was feeling an inkling of déjà vu — like he’d seen this guy before.
Shaking his head, he pointed towards the entrance of the aquarium and noticed the large gap between the teen and the last person stepping inside.
”Are you going in or not?” The cold sweats and nervous twitching were enough of an answer, “Or are you too scared?”
“Ah…”
Kaito blinked and turned to check that… yep, his turn to go in. …Greeaat… A recurring thought to just cancel this heist popped up in his head again, soon followed by the constant argument that if he did, they might try putting it somewhere like this again. And he couldn’t really have the police – or anyone, really – learning that swimming finned devils tended to ward of a certain white thief…
Aw, jeez… Why did Jii have to be out of town for this one?! Sure he could do heists on his own, but…
Oops, he’d been staring off into space again. A quick glance back down at the chibi detective and he gave another small smile.
“Ah, no… I’m going in. Sorry about that.”
The magician only paused a few seconds more before taking a breath and stepping forward to pay for admission, looking more calm and friendly than he had just moments ago. He could do this, they were behind glass. He’s had to scuba dive in the ocean with the things before, albeit under more pressing circumstances than just casing out where and how the gem had been placed.
A quick exchange of thanks and he moves out of the way, starting to walk further inside. It’ll be fine, he’ll be okay, just… maybe focus more on the people than what they would be looking at? That might work, but if tantei-kun was going to be sticking around, that might be more suspicious than what he’s doing already just by going into a building he clearly isn’t comfortable being in. He didn’t have to be in here long. Judging from the map, they’d put the target fairly close, though from the layout, it almost looked to be a large hallway of some sort? Must be an easy place to defend if they put it there. Maybe he can get by without actually having to see too many of these things…
Later, right. For all he knew, ‘later’ meant days from now.
Tearing his seething gaze from the thief, Conan began to tug and pinch at various pieces of clothing. He missed his jacket and jeans, even if the material wrapped around him now was strangely comfortable. He had assumed from the start that the suit was only for show, but he supposed now that it made sense — one couldn’t successfully snatch a jewel while wearing something constricting and annoying.
A twist at the hips, and he followed the flow of the cape that fell from his tiny shoulders. It was then that he noticed a lack of red sneakers, upper lip twitching in a scowl. Of course, he should have expected that much — ah, but his watch and belt were still attached to him. Good, at least he had something to work with if his ‘twin’ became too amused.
“It’s not like anyone else will see me like this,” he spat, “so I’ll avoid the smiling part.”
“Killjoy…”
Despite the comment, the thief had continued to smile as the other checked over the outfit he’d been changed into, looking it over himself now that the chibi actually had it on. He hadn’t been entirely joking on the ‘younger’ part earlier. The size reference had come from his own clothes he’d worn as a child, using nicer ones he’d worn to his father’s shows, so he’d had a feeling it might fit just as well on the detective. Nice to know that assumption panned out.
“Even if no one will see you, it’s not like you’d lose anything by smiling either. In fact…” A flick of the wrist and a familiar pair of glasses appeared in his hand.
“How about this: You let me take one picture with you, where you’re smiling, and I’ll give these back now. And no, no one will see the picture, in case you might wonder.”
He almost wished that the thief had been given the traits of a dog rather than a cat, though he supposed it could be a lot worse. At least he didn’t smell like a cat, and he didn’t seem the possess the urge to claw at things – yet.
“Just don’t tell anyone, all right?” He didn’t need people thinking they could just cuddle him whenever even if he didn’t mind it from some.
Kid simply gave a small hum as he slowly trailed the fingers, working at it a short time more before the arm fell back around the detective. A light pull to draw the other closer and he settled, leaving his head resting where it was, continuing to purr. Definitely going to be here a while, tantei, think he plans on taking a light nap.
He’s trying his best to fight off the fact that it’s warm where he is, and he’s try harder still to fight off the urge to relax and accept that this was going to be a thing for a little while.
“Watch the hair…” He grumbled, though he made no move to swat the thief’s face away.
“Haaaii…” Kid continued for a short time before moving his head onto the detective’s shoulder, lazily bringing one of the hands up to comb and straighten the slightly mussed hair.
“That explains the tail,” he watched the appendage sway side-to-side until he was gathered up in the thief’s lap, “o–oi! I never agreed to this.”
He shifted and wiggled, but was unable to escape his human prison KID had created around him. Dammit. “How long are you going to keep me for?”
“Dunno… B’t don’t w’rry, I’ll ret’rn ya ev’ntually~” A faint smile at that. Yep, he’s clearly stolen the little detective at the moment. And he’s not being stun-gunned for it~
…And if there’s a noise, don’t worry. The thief’s just started to quietly purr, nuzzling Conan’s hair a bit. Very much a cuddle mood.
“Uh…” Confused and slightly concerned, Conan leaned away from the thief that had suddenly decided to snuggle up on him, one eyebrow raised. “Are you going to explain, or am I stuck like this for a while?”
“Cat, and y’re stuck~” And with those few words, Kid pulled the other in more to settle him in his lap, arms falling loosely around him as his head moved to rest on the detective. Chibis make nice cuddle buddies. Yes.
Now I see why Hattori hates this guy — he’s a jerk if you’re not a kid.
Out of faint paranoid, he reached up to make sure is hair was flattened while listening to Hakuba talk about his methods. “Look, I wasn’t trying to kill him. And I’m sorry is I’m not up to the Great Hakuba’s standards.”
“’Not trying to’ doesn’t mean much if someone ends up dead anyway. It has nothing to do with whatever standards I may have, any method of trying to catch or get revenge or such that has that as a possible end result shouldn’t be used… How would you feel if he hadn’t had that thing influencing him to bring him back?”
He’s just miffed because of taking the death lightly, and of a Kaitou at that. The strange world and magic might have kept it from being permanent, but that doesn’t mean it should be brushed off.
