Hush~

The thief didn’t look up. Though he had been the one to come over to the other’s house, he didn’t want the detective to see him like this…

As he recalled the events from earlier that night, the tears wouldn’t stop. He could still feel the hand of the man he had tried to save, just before his grip had…

A choke escaped him and he lowered his head even more.

“There was nothing I could do…”

Shinichi sighed a moment, watching him, then moved a little further onto the bed to curl up before him. He wasn’t sure if the other needed any sort of touch so he’d wait for now. He just… needed to find the right words now.

“Because we’re human,” he answered after a moment’s more of silence. “Because no matter how hard we can try at something sometimes we’re doomed to fail. You can’t dwell on the past, can’t let the failures and the deaths get to you."

God he was so bad at this.

"I know it’s not easy, and probably sounds pretentious or something coming from me. But you can’t undo what’s already been done, and you can’t bring back the lives that have already been lost. And I know it hurts, especially for someone like you who values life so much you have a rule that you try to never let get broken during heists.”

Someone had one told him those words, told him it wasn’t part of his job to pay for the ones he couldn’t help but that didn’t mean that every death he stumbled upon didn’t hurt. That every life he couldn’t save until the killer was caught didn’t haunt him.

The thief looked up at the other, staring for a minute before finally shifting closer. No, the words didn’t really help. He knew what was done was done. That he couldn’t change it.

That was the problem. It was permanent.

Though it was true that he focused too much on those that had been lost and his failures in general, he couldn’t just let them fade either. He needed to keep them, so he could try and avoid or learn how to better handle similar situations.

That didn’t stop the pain and guilt that arose every time another name was added to the list.

His ‘rule’ was laughable. Kid might not attack people, true. But that didn’t stop others from doing harm or trying to exploit that fact. Aoko and Jii threatened on separate occasions, Akako used as a puppet to try and kill him, people murdered while the killers hid behind the thief’s name. He likely had thousands of fans, many of which would be happy to go to prison in his place if it meant they could assist the ‘great’ Kaitou Kid. More zealous fans might even die for him. But why? Because he made himself noticeable. He’s a thief who puts on a show. He entertains them, amases them, makes them interested. He’s a gentleman who announces the crime he will commit, doesn’t hurt anyone himself, and almost always returns what he steals. Who uses magic and charm to distract everyone from seeing what he’s really doing.

They never see the danger. And those that do, he keeps away. Really, he shouldn’t have even come here right now. Shouldn’t keep coming back to Shinichi…

But he didn’t want to be alone either. Not tonight. No matter how much his mask of composure had slipped, he wanted- needed someone to be with, even if only as Kid. Though, he’d have still been happier if it had been after he’d calmed down enough to stop crying before the detective had come in…

A sigh.

Every time…

Slowly, he reached his arms out around the other, pulling him close and holding him tight, a slight tremor passing through them. His face pressed against the detective’s chest, hat slipping back some.

Every time he was given time to really think about what surrounds him… he couldn’t stop spiraling down. Probably, no matter what Shinichi had said, he wouldn’t have pulled out of it. But at least he’d tried. And it wasn’t as though what he said wasn’t true. The thief was just too set in his thinking, in his guilt.

The thief moves to place a small kiss on the detective’s lips before shifting to place his forehead against the other’s and wrapping his arms lightly around Shinichi’s waist, smiling softly.

The press of KID’s cheek against his own pulled a content noise from the detective, even though he could tell the thief was teasing him a bit. He chose not to comment on the teasing though, especially because he was enjoying the touch against his back. Even pressed into a little.

“… Will you be gone in the morning?” he replied knowing that no matter what he’d say yes. Because even just one night with the thief was happiness.

“Not before I tell you I’m leaving.” A laugh. “If you don’t mind being woken up for that, of course.”

Kid paused before letting his head drop to the other’s shoulder completely, raising the palm of his hand up so that the slow rubbing turned into a gentle scratch as he held the other tight.

“So… is that a yes?”

Shinichi paused at the sight before him. He hadn’t meant to walk in on the thief undressing, though actually he hadn’t been expecting the thief in the room, but it had happened. And he hadn’t been expecting to find a pair of wings facing him against the thief’s back. He could only stop and stare while trying to manage out an apology. Oh god…

Kid thought something was off when he’d left after the heist. An itch has started in his shoulders and back and wouldn’t stop, no matter how much he rubbed. By the time he’d gotten to the other’s house, it was accompanied by a growing pressure. And it was driving him a bit crazy. As soon as he made his way inside, he went into the closest room he could get to and took off his jacket. And once he got the shirt off, the first thing he did was let out a sigh of relief as the pressure disappeared.

And then he saw what had been causing it.

Two large white wings stretched out, now that they were free from the restraint. The thief stared at them for a moment before slowly closing his mouth and reaching across his shoulder to touch one of them, ruffling the feathers some. Yep, he could feel it. The hand slowly pulled away and he tested moving them, tilting and flexing them slightly before completely folding them back.

Which is when he noticed he was no longer alone.

He hesitated a moment before grinning.

“Nice to see you again, tantei-kun.~ Sorry for not coming to say hi when I dropped in, but I got a bit preoccupied…”

Looking down, he saw the shirt and coat were still in a pile on the floor, so he reached down to get them, smoothing them out and setting them to the side. He’d definitely need to find out what to do about wearing those later…

He watched as he tried on the jacket, glad to see it fit even if it wasn’t perfect. It really just had to get him home and it seemed as if it would do the job nicely. Shinichi couldn’t stop a small, pleased smile that he’d managed to come up with something useful for his thief.

And of course Kaito couldn’t wear his white hat with it, it would draw too much attention, but he wasn’t ready for the way his stomach dropped at seeing him in nearly all black clothing. He didn’t know why seeing the master thief in black immediately made him think of the Black Organization, made him freeze with a bit of fear and just want to run. But it did and he did his damnedest not to let said thief see the reaction he was having.

“W-well, the white pants and shoes kind of ruin the shifty look, but I can see it.” A little too well.

“Hmm… Well, I’m not going to go so far as to change those. I think black and white works better on me anyway.”

The thief took the cap by the brim and went over to the detective, quickly transferring it to the other’s head, grinning as he started to remove the jacket.

“But I don’t plan on just taking the jacket and running. I only just got here, after all~”

He hung it over an arm and let the wings flare out some when it was off. Truth be told, when he’d noticed something was a bit off, the detective’s house was the first one he’d thought of to come to. Admittedly, it was probably because it was closer than his own at the time, but he hadn’t even doubted the other would try and help.

“So, now that I know I’ll likely be able to get home with these…” Kid leaned towards Shinichi and made a small flap, “I’m curious. They don’t look too bad, do they?”

Shinichi paused at the sight before him. He hadn’t meant to walk in on the thief undressing, though actually he hadn’t been expecting the thief in the room, but it had happened. The detective gave a small shrug, not really faulting the thief for turning down the offer. Even if he did think it would be easier then destroying his own clothing. “All right, the offer still stands if you change your mind though.”

It didn’t really take long to get to the room, opening the door and flipping the light switch on so they could see. It was probably the biggest of the bedrooms in the house and it seemed to radiate how long it’s masters had been away. Or maybe it was only Shinichi who could feel that, a small frown marring his face as he caught sight of photos on his mother’s vanity.

Rubbing at an arm, he turned to head to the large walk-in closet to rummage through for one of his dad’s biggest jackets to give to the thief. One of them had to be big enough to hide those wonderful wings against the thief’s back. He finally found one he thought would work, a deep black one, and handed it to him.

“See how that one fits.”

Kid simply hummed in acknowledgement of the comment and continued after the other. When they reached the room, he looked around a bit before going over to the closet, nodding a thanks to the detective as he accepted the jacket. He stepped back out into the bedroom before sliding it over the folded wings and putting his arms through the sleeves. They were still slightly uncomfortable at being confined, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as it had been with the suit. And aside from maybe a couple of the feathers at the end of the appendages sticking out at the bottom, it did manage to cover them. There was a bit more tension as he closed the jacket, but it was still easily bearable.

“Hmm… I think it will work. If anyone actually stops me to ask about why it’s sticking out so much, I can just say it’s a bag.”

The thief then took off his hat and flicked it, making it turn into a normal black cap which he then placed back on his head. Then he smiled and turned to Shinichi, charm on the monocle swaying slightly as he did.

“Ok, be honest. I’m just a pair of sunglasses away from being the most stereotypical obvious criminal you’ve seen, aren’t I?”

“Tantei-kun, did you see where I put my jacket? I could have sworn it was in the den, but…”

The thief trailed off when he passed through the doorway to the library and saw the detective.

Well… I guess I found it…

Kid grinned and walked over to the other

“You know… If you wanted to dress as a thief so badly, you could have just asked,” he said, stopping in front of Shinichi and putting a hand to his chin, looking the other up and down before reaching into a pocket and pulling out a sheet. “I know the costume best, after all….”

He covered the detective before the other could react and pulled away after a few seconds, leaving Shinichi in the full outfit, minus the monocle. Then he tossed the sheet away to reveal his own jacket laying across his arm.

Kid grinned as he put it on, then drew the detective in a light hug.

“See? Now we match.~”

Relaxing himself into the hug, shifting to rest his head on the thief’s shoulder, he couldn’t help as his smile grew a little more. He could actually get rather used to this…

“Mm, no, I suppose not. But it’s hard to tell with you sometimes, if it’s just because or if there is a reason behind it.”

“Hmm…. Well, I guess you’d just have to guess at whether there is or isn’t one.”

Kid moved his head to rest his cheek on top of the other’s, absently trailing a hand up and down the detective’s back, eyes still closed.

“…Do… you mind if I stay here for the night?” He asked, after a few minutes.

The kiss from the thief was over before he could entirely process the action, far too quickly in his opinion, and his eyes moved to find the thief’s. The press of their foreheads together deepened the blush the kiss had caused but the detective was smiling too. He… rather liked the position they were in currently.

“W-what brought that on?”

“…Just something I wanted to do,” he said, closing his eyes and hugging the other a bit more as the rest of his body relaxed.

“Does there always need to be a reason?”

He snorted some at the not wanting to cut up a shirt, staring kind of balefully at the thief. Why did it matter if it wasn’t his shirt anyway? Not like his dad was using it.

“You are aware that my parents aren’t home, never visit and probably don’t even plan to wear any of the clothing in their bedroom ever again, right?”

Even still he couldn’t force the thief to use one of his dad’s shirts, so if he absolutely refused then he wouldn’t push. But he thought it would be prudent to tell him that the elder Kudo was likely to never even realize the damned thing was missing. And the smile the thief gave him did end up pulling one from the detective.

“More then likely in my dad’s closet in his room.”

With the question answered he turned to leave the room to head to his parents’ own down the hall.

“I’m well aware. But I might as well just use my own clothes for something like that. I might have to cut them later anyway…”

Even if it wouldn’t be missed, he didn’t really like damaging other people’s belongings. Things going missing or being altered could be reversed, but actually doing anything permanent, aside from some minor property damage at heists, didn’t sit well with him. And even then, it was mostly just broken glass.

Kid moved his hands to his pockets and followed after the detective, making sure the wings wouldn’t hit the door frame.

“Maybe? I mean, that’s not to say I’m not surprised or curious but…” He agreed he should probably be freaking out a little more then he was. But it was kind of hard to deny the fact that he’d seen the thief touching them, that they had moved so freely on his back.

Then again in some ways it wasn’t too hard to believe, weird and unusual sure, but so had been a pill that should have killed him and instead shrunk him back to a child.

“I might have one of my dad’s over sized jackets you could have. And we could cut the back of another shirt so it might not be as awkward to get home.”

He hummed at the answer, still curious some as to why the other was taking it so well. Kid himself was at least used to seeing strange things from time to time, but supposed being ten years younger for a time would make one more open to a few sudden, seemingly impossible changes…

The thief brought a hand to his chin and started towards the other.

“A jacket might work… but if anything was going to be getting cut, I would prefer it not being someone else’s. Could always do that to my own shirt, if nothing can be used to hide them…”

He stopped in front of Shinichi and smiled.

“So, where are those jackets kept?”
