‘wake up’ (sorry, shinichi can’t get enough)

He froze at the voice.

It didn’t match the hollow screams in the chaos surrounding him. It was much clearer, and full of concern. But he knew it didn’t come from any of the formless figures running around him, pulling him back from where he was trying to go.

He knew who it was.

Kid stopped struggling against the force holding him down, eyes falling shut as he relaxed his painfully tense muscles, a slight shaking forming as he breathed in deeply. He knew he needed to calm down. The detective didn’t need to be worry any more than he already was….

As the mental scene faded, he glanced at the arms holding him down before following them up to the face of the one they belonged to, giving the other a small, apologetic smile.

“Sorry… about that… tantei-kun…”

“Why are you leaving?”

Shinichi flinched at the sound of the thief’s voice, wishing to god it had been any one but him to ask. He could lie to just about anyone, had been doing so for so long, but KID wasn’t one of those people. Their entire relationship, of sorts, had been honest (though that didn’t mean there weren’t secrets or things unsaid). And now he was going to have to lie about this, couldn’t let him know.

“Figures you would seek me out upon hearing I’m leaving,” he sighed out, keeping his back to the thief. Maybe he could manage if he didn’t look at him? “I… have a new case I’m being sent on. It’ll take me out of the country.”

He wasn’t looking at the thief, had almost missed the beginning of his words, was praying the person threatening KID wasn’t listening because he’d known it would come to this. He’d known KID would want the truth and that he’d cave and give it to him. Because the truth was important to Shinichi and he’d hated himself for thinking he could lie to his magician.

He’d just hoped that it wouldn’t come to this, that maybe he could protect one person he cared for when he was so bad at protecting everyone else. It was Shinichi’s turn to ball his hands into fists, body tense before the stiffness in his body seemed to just let go and he let out a tired sigh.

“I don’t want you to die.”

Die? Me? Why would him leaving…

He didn’t take his eyes off the detective. Kid had never seen the other look so… it almost seemed like he was defeated. Shinichi really seemed to believe that he had to go… for the thief to live. And that he had to go so far as to make up an excuse about it.

…Why?

It wasn’t as if Kid didn’t face quite a bit of danger already. He didn’t know what sort of threat he would be under if the detective stayed… but it couldn’t be worse than what he dealt with already.

The thief let out a sigh and suddenly walked up to the other, putting a hand on Shinichi’s head and ruffling his hair some, smiling softly.

“Well, if that’s all, then I’m afraid I definitely can’t let you leave. You should know that I’m rather hard to kill, tantei-kun.” The look in his eyes grew a bit more sad. “And even with the possibility of a little danger… I’d rather you not go…”

He knew he shouldn’t be there in his current condition, face seemingly permanently stained red and he hoped he could lie convincingly enough to the thief he asked. He couldn’t help that his hormones had been going a little more haywire then usual, a side effect from the Apotoxin Haibara had told him. This really was the worst time to come to a KID heist.

Maybe he should go, he could likely leave before KID showed up since he seemed to be having fun toying with the Task Force. Turning to go with that decision in mind, he hoped maybe he could actually leave before the thief showed up and he’d have to try and explain his fevered look and uh… physical evidence to what exactly was wrong with the detective.

“I should have never promised I’d try to make it to all of his heists,” he murmured to himself.

His face was bright red and he was refusing to look at the thief at all. Kaito had to know, could feel his eyes on him and it only made him blush brighter. He didn’t need to see the thief’s face to know he was smirking. Damned smug thief.

A small cough left the detective. “N-no I’m… fine…” A terrible, horrible lie.

He didn’t know whether to be flattered that the detective still arrived when he was like this, or insulted that he would try to leave without even telling him why. And he’d even made the thief worry over nothing…

“Mmm-hmm, I’m sure you are…..”

As the spoke, Kid carefully moved a hand from the detective’s back to have it hover over the area, but not quite touching. The other arm tilted upward to spread over Shinichi’s upper back as he leaned in towards the other again.

“I’m sure you’re just…” A finger was held out and slowly made it’s way along the tented section, pulling it away with a flick as he got to the last word.

Fine.”

Send a symbol and my muse will show up in your’s house at 3AM…
✯ – with a sudden urge to cuddle

He knew the detective should have been back home by now, but he’d already checked all of the rooms…

Well, all but one.

The thief silently opened the door to the library, giving an small sigh upon seeing that, sure enough, the teen seemed to be scanning through the shelves.

Doesn’t he ever take a break?

Kid sneaked up behind Shinichi and slid his arms under the other’s, gently squeezing him as he placed his head on the detective’s shoulder.

“Isn’t it a bit late to be doing research, tantei-kun?”

There was a rather loud and startled squeak from the detective, though he’d probably deny the noise if asked about it, as he was manhandled by the thief in a manner he definitely wasn’t used to. He could feel a tiny bit of irritation starting to fester as KID rubbed against his face. Soon enough he was back to his deadpanned glare as he flushed.

“I am no such thing. What in the world is wrong with you?"

Though there was something to be said about getting to see KID in a way others hadn’t. And really there wasn’t much heat behind his words at all. Then again that seemed to be something of the norm between them recently.

The thief stopped rubbing against Shinichi and took a moment to lean forward so that he could place the glasses on one of the shelves.

"Nothing’s wrong~ And you are cute. Being so easy to…” Kid suddenly took a step backwards and pulled the detective towards him to try and make him fall back, turning to the side and keeping one arm on the other’s back to catch him if he did.

“…Knock off balance.”

“Why are you leaving?”

He wasn’t stupid and knew KID probably knew what was going on, they had a very similar intelligence and the same-ish habits when it came to protecting people. After all hadn’t KID tried so hard to keep him at a distance just to keep him safe? He tried not to sigh, hands balling into fists. Could he really keep this up?

“I-it’s not my choice,” he offered instead, though whether or not he was tying it to his lie or not was left unknown at the moment. Of course it was his choice, in away. He could have told him what was really going on but…

“It’s not like I want to leave you.”

The thief still didn’t look up, though his hand did relax. If it wasn’t by choice, then the fact that he may be right about this having something to do with a danger. His next words were spoken to where they could barely even be heard.

“…If you’re going to say something like that…”

He took a few steps forward and raised his head to look the detective in the eye. If Shinichi was thinking to protect him, he wasn’t going to be doing it with a lie. If anything, Kid would look into it himself, if the detective wasn’t going to say the real reason. Though, even if he did say, there was no guarantee the thief would stay out of it, either…

“..Then at least tell me the truth.”

!!!

meitantei-cowlick:

The water ran hot, near scalding, and fogged the room up completely on top of threatening to turn Shinichi’s skin bright red. It had been a long, tiring day of multiple murder cases and he was so tired of smelling of blood. A long, tired sigh left the detective and he tilted his head back to let the hot water soothe his muscles.

That was until the curtain was drawn back and some one was slipping into the shower behind him. Startled he turned around and let out a noise of surprise (which sounded like an awkward duck squawk). “O-oi! What in the world are you doing, you stupid thief?”

He’d left his suit and hat the sink, as well as his tie and gloves, though left the monocle. It had fogged up upon even entering the room, but he did have to maintain some manner of disguise. And he definitely hadn’t wanted to miss this opportunity…

“Joining you, obviously.”

Even half blinded, he could still see the other fairly well, though if he was just focusing on the other’s face right now. The water and steam were quickly making his clothes cling to him, which felt a bit strange, since he wasn’t used to dealing with wet clothes too often while he was inside. At the very least, he supposed he should have untucked the shirt…. So he started to do so now, even if it was a bit more trouble to do with the water.

“I did knock, but you didn’t seem to hear me. So, I just dropped in.” He looked at Shinichi with a smirk. “Thought I might could wash your back for you, if you want.~”

Hush~

x (29)

The thief didn’t look up. Though he had been the one to come over to the other’s house, he didn’t want the detective to see him like this…

As he recalled the events from earlier that night, the tears wouldn’t stop. He could still feel the hand of the man he had tried to save, just before his grip had…

A choke escaped him and he lowered his head even more.

“There was nothing I could do…”

“I should have never promised I’d try to make it to all of his heists,” he murmured to himself.

He really wasn’t sick, so the thief didn’t have to worry about that being a lie or anything. His weird behavior could easily be explained if the thief would simply look down and Shinichi was glad he hadn’t yet. He tried to give him his usual deadpanned look to show that yes, he did say so. He was completely sure.

It vanished at the sight of KID’s smile though, the detective about to return it when he was suddenly pulled into a hug. And when KID hugged him it was always a full body, close contact hug. He could feel panic rising, his problem would quickly be found out this way! But he couldn’t just pull away, he had to keep acting like everything was fine or the thief would worry more. Shit. Shit.

Too offended,” he echoed with a roll of his eyes, trying to keep his voice from giving him away more so. “Arrogant thief. I know I know don’t have to come to every heist.”

The thief blinked as he felt something against his leg. He pulled back some as the detective spoke, the words barely registering, and finally looked down, staring for a few moments. Then he turned his face back towards Shinichi, raising an eyebrow and giving a slight smirk, arms still around the other.

That certainly answers everything.

“…Need help with something, tantei-kun?”
