3rd Person: To see my muse naked

Kaito looked around and sighed when he realised he’d forgotten to bring a change of clothes with him into the bathroom. He casually opened the door, intending to go straight to his room, when he noticed something was off. There was someone in the next room, and they were turning towards him. The door was immediately slammed shut again, a blush quickly rising on his face. Had he left the front door unlocked? He hadn’t been expecting anyone….

Wait… wasn’t that Madison?

The magician’s face turned darker. If he’d known she, or really anyone, was there, he would’ve put on a towel, at least… Well, maybe she hadn’t seen?

”It’s kind of a stupid story. I mean, it’s not stupid to me. I think it’s adorable.” She shook her head and folded her arms over the table, “M’ brother’s a defense attorney, but his first case was really difficult. He won, but he’d been stressin’ really hard over it.”

She paused, a tiny smile forming. “The guy he was workin’ for was this really sweet old man, but he was kinda poor. M’ brother was tryin’ t’ tell ‘em that he didn’t need t’ pay, but the guy gave him something anyway. It was supposed t’ be some family heirloom.”

Madison grabbed her phone and took a moment to flip through what few photos. When she found the one she was looking for, she turned her screen to Kaito and shrugged. To her it was a little too flashy, but the necklace in her picture was rather expensive and exquisite looking.

”The old guy was going to sell it if he get desperate enough, but he thought m’ brother could use it more. I’m not sure if he’s has it appraised yet, but he’s positive it’s real.”

The magician leaned forward some to look at the phone, nodding to show that he was still listening. It certainly did look real. Not that he could tell too much from a picture. While he probably wouldn’t have gone after it now, it looked like the type of target he used to steal before finding out about Pandora and strictly targeting jewels. It was… kinda the perfect choice really. The police knew he’d gone after this sort of stuff before, but Snake and Spider wouldn’t be interested because they would know that the target wasn’t Pandora and, likely, that the one ‘stealing’ it wasn’t really Kid. And it gave him a good reason for the thief to actually appear in front of Madison.

“Sounds like it was quite an experience, if he felt he had to part with something like this to repay your brother…”

Kaito pulled away from the picture, smiling slightly.

“Well, it looks good to me. So…” He started counting on his fingers, “We have a general plan and a target. I can probably handle writing and delivering the note and coming up with a disguise…. So I think all we need to do is figure out a date to aim for and possibly coming up with exactly how we plan on giving it to him… though, that would depend more on what he does when he gets there, I guess…”

Oh. Well, that explained it — seems even he couldn’t be spared from the tragedy that was the Titanic. Though, she wondered why he had decided to watch it alone when the movie had a widely known reputation for being sad.

”It’s all right. I cried too.” She wiggled herself closer and put an arm around his shoulder, “A lot. Y’ gonna be okay?”

“Yeah… I’ll be fine…”

A small hiccup escaped him and his blush grew darker. As famous at the movie was he’d never seen it until now,  and after hearing some people in class talk about it, he’d gotten curious enough to finally sit down through it. He had heard it was a sad movie, but…

He leaned against her, raising his head from his legs.

“Just wasn’t expecting to be hit by it so hard…”

”I don’t know, Kaito. I ain’t good at thinkin’ of this kind of stuff. I mean, we’re only pretending to pull a heist as KID, right? I don’t know anything about disguises, but m’ brother has somethin’ we could pretend t’ steal. If I tell ‘im about it, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.”

There was another twinge of doubt that made its way from the back of her mind to her stomach. She wasn’t brilliant in any way, but she wanted nothing more than to get the note to KID thanks to Kaito’s convincing.

“Your brother?”

Maybe her niece’s father? Come to think of it, he’d gotten so distracted with the card, he’d forgotten to ask about how that trick from before went… But that could wait until everything was settled.

“I mean, it’s great if we can actually tell the person it’s not actually being stolen, especially if they’re related to you, but what exactly does he have that would be a possible ‘target’?”

”If he never keeps the stuff ‘e steals, then I guess he can’t be all bad.” She wasn’t keen on keeping up with the news, but she had heard enough to know that he didn’t like taking peoples lives. She supposed that was another good point — that, and she may have done a little research on her phone before coming to Kaito. It was only enough to see what he looked like.

The gentlemanly suit and top hat were definitely cute, she had to admit that. Other than that, she knew nothing else. Her curiosity peaked when he mentioned magic. Maybe that’s why the card sounded like a trick to her.

Madison entertained the idea of an honorable thief, her lips turning up a bit more. If he wasn’t a terrible person at heart, then there couldn’t possibly be any harm in handing the card over.

”All right, if yer sure.” She slipped the card closer and toyed with the edge of it, “So we send a fake notice, get his attention, then slip ‘im the note when we can? How would we get close enough?”

Kaito hid a grin when Madison finally agreed to the plan. Though, he felt a slight twinge of guilt at making her help him with his job, unknowingly, it had to be done if he really wanted to find out who’d sent the card in the first place….

Well, and a part of him wanted her to ‘meet’ Kid. Possibly.

“Hmm… if Kid does come to ‘stop’ us, he’d probably get close if he thinks we actually stole something… Not that we actually will, of course, but if he believes we did, he’ll try and get it back. It isn’t just the things he stole that he’s returned, after all.”

Madison shifted slightly in her seat, hands clasped tightly in her lap as she tried her hardest to ignore the rolling and flopping in her stomach. Kaito seemed entirely too eager to draw KID’s attention, while she nervously worried over the fact that his excitement was contagious.

Doing something illegal, no matter how minor, had never crossed the woman’s thoughts. Even drawing in a thief seemed wrong, but some small part of her wanted to. Madison didn’t pride herself on resisting temptation, though that was more towards sweets than anything, but she had always thought she was was smart enough not to do anything stupid.

If it weren’t for Kaito, she would have turned away and told him he was crazy.

”So we’re going to send a fake note an’ hope KID will fall fer it? Seems kinda… easy.” She forced a tiny smile and let herself giggle, “I guess that ain’t too bad. Y’ sure know a lot about ‘im, though.”

He paused at that. While he was always careful to refer to Kid as a separate person, Kaito really should watch for how much he says about the thief. Excuses wouldn’t work every time…

“Well, when your best friend’s father is the officer in charge of catching the thief, you tend to hear a lot about him. Also helps that one of my classmates is a detective who’s also trying to catch Kid…”

He sat back in his seat and scratched his face, turning slightly pink.

“And as a fellow magician, I can’t help but be a fan of his magic. So, I’ve never really seen Kid as a bad guy. Other than the fact that he takes things, I haven’t heard about him doing anything that strikes me as being criminal. Which is why I don’t feel all that bad about giving him the card.”

The florist’s eyes flicked between the twirling card and the one toying with it. Her cheek was pressed to her knuckles, head tilted slightly — something seemed a little different about Kaito. She didn’t know him well, she knew that already, but he was giving her a different vibe than the first time they had met.

”Huh?” Madison sat a little straighter, eyes widening. Had he really suggested handing the card over to KID? Kaito had a point about the fact that KID never kept the jewels, but the tiny pit of guilt that was forming in her stomach was gradually growing.

Leaning forward, she gave Kaito a skeptical look and snorted.

”How in th’ heck are we supposed t’ do that? KID’s a famous thief, it’s not like we c’n just call ‘im and tell ‘im we got somethin’ for ‘im. A… And even if ‘e gives the stuff back, what if he doesn’t this time? Won’t we be helpin’ a thief?”

She didn’t mean to babble, but she was becoming extremely nervous and — maybe — even a little excited. As bad as the idea seemed, it was also very tempting.

Kaito didn’t even notice that he was probably acting a bit too interested in this situation. He was quickly drawing up a plan in his mind, but he had to convince Madison they would need to get help from Kid for it to work…

“Well, there are actually a couple of ways people have called him out before. Kid likes to come when people challenge him to steal something of theirs, but since we don’t own anything, that’s probably not the best choice. However… he also tends to show up when people try to use his name to commit their own crimes…”

The magician straightened, placing the card down in front of him, eyes full of excitement… and possibly a bit of mischief.

“I know Nakamouri-keibu fairly well. If I explained why, I’m sure he’d allow us to at least send a fake heist notice. He wouldn’t want people like that man trying to tell Kid to steal more than he already does… And I doubt Kid would suddenly change his habit of returning targets so suddenly.”

Though, Nakamouri definitely wouldn’t allow Kid to get ahold of the card if we did tell him… So I’ll probably have to send a real notice…
