“Wake up!”

rainydayprodigy-deactivated2014:

There was so much blood.

He had to get up, had to warn someone— his numb fingertips twitching as he tried to move, kicking and screaming against the invisible force holding him down. He was going to die he was going to die he was going to—

“Wake up!”

The scientist’s eyes— brimming with tears and fear— jerked open suddenly at the voice, frantically scanning the room before coming to focus on the face before him, his grey eyes widening even further in surprise.

Right. He’d left the window open. Anyone within a mile would hear him screaming bloody murder and go to check.

But this was the second floor.

“…How …Who are you?”

The boy cloaked in white seemed strangely familiar, though he’d never pin it to the one he met a few weeks ago in a million years.

Basil tried to sit up, stopped by hands firmly holding him down, and the position that should have been apparent earlier suddenly cleared his sleep fogged mind.

While his face turned every shade of red the scientist released his own hands— he’d drawn blood— from the other’s wrists, a palm wiping tears off his blushing face, turning his head to the side to avoid eye contact.

“…S-sorry.”

The thief relaxed some when the other seemed to be out of whatever had had him struggling and yelling to much. He gave a small smile when the grey eyes came to rest on him, both to help calm the one under him and to hopefully show he wasn’t too suspicious. Though, not many people would come in through a window, even if they’d heard the screams, much less one that wasn’t on the ground floor….

“Just a phantom who happened to be passing by.~”

Kid didn’t release his hold on the teen right away, partially to make sure he wouldn’t get violent again, partially because the other had a bit of a death grip on his wrists, but that was soon gone as they were suddenly released. He was surprised to see red when the hands pulled back, though. He’d been more concerned about restraining and making sure the teen didn’t hurt himself than about anything else.

“And there’s no need to apologise,” he said, shifting slightly to take the weight off of his arms, but still keeping them in place for now, “Something like this doesn’t really seem as bad as what might have happened.”

“Wake up!” ((sending one back hehe :’D))

The first thing he became aware of was the light. The sky was blue, not black, and the sun was shining, rather than the pale moonlight he’d just been under in his mind. He was breathing deeply, the panic that he’d felt just a few seconds earlier already beginning to subside.

This wasn’t a heist. Those men weren’t here. He wasn’t Kid right now.

He was safe.

Well, mostly. Kaito stared at the one holding him down for a moment before slowly pulling his arms, which had been pushing at the other’s chest, back to his sides. He let his head rest back on the ground and closed his eyes until he could completely calm down. When he opened them again, the magician realised the face above him was slightly familiar…

A small blush tinted his cheeks as he fully became aware of how they probably looked and he gave a small, nervous laugh.

“Ah… thank you… I think I’m okay, now.”

It had been a long day.

Basil was stuck under a bus stop, scowling, a late afternoon shower having started and him without an umbrella. He tapped his foot in irritation, chin resting in his palm as he watched the rain.

The evidence they’d been counting on had been too damaged to ascertain anything from it, and their only lead was lost.

But if he’d been a bit more careful in preserving it—!

He was expecting anything but the slightly rough brush of his hair. The scientist initially glanced up in confusion, though he wasn’t going to stop the other— it was the distraction he wanted. And it felt good.

“…Why’d you do that?”

“I’ll tell the mayor to change the name to Bring-an-umbrella-or-you’re-going-to-get-soaked-it-rains-nine-days-out-of-ten Valley.”

Basil snickered, raising his hand to stifle the laughs unconsciously before dropping it— nobody was around— the rain would drown out everything. Hell they could sing and nobody would hear.

“…Work. I’m a forensic tech but the evidence was too damaged to get anything from and—!”

He sighed.

“Sorry, I’m just frustrated…”

“Ah, it’s fine…”

Forensics? Kaito had definitely underestimated the guy’s age, if he was already working at that kind of job. Not that it really mattered, he supposed. And he hadn’t really noticed the other was irritated, else he wouldn’t have just come up and started messing with his hair. The small beetle must’ve caught more of his focus than he thought… At least the guy hadn’t gotten more annoyed by it.

“I’m sure it gets stressful when something like that happens…” The magician paused and brought his arms back down before continuing.

“…What kind of evidence was it?”

Basil drew the bug near his face and inspected it as it crawled.

“Well I’m glad it didn’t get wet.”

Glancing towards the boy who sat next to him the scientist lowered his hand and gave a nervous laugh.

“I wasn’t… really paying attention, just, thinking about stuff. It was alright though, I didn’t mind!”

His grey eyes drifted back towards the rainstorm, they usually didn’t last too long, so the two of them would be freed soon. Though he was curious.

“Why are you in a small town like this anyway? If I can ask—”

“I was visiting the city, actually. Heard about this town and thought it might make a good place to take a small break.”

He gave a slightly embarrassed smile as he looked out at the water falling outside the small covered area.

“Though… I may have underestimated exactly how wet it would be. Would’ve brought an umbrella…”

The magician paused for a moment, then put his arms behind his head and looked over at the other, curious. “So…. Can I ask what you were thinking that got you so distracted?”

Basil grew sleepy as the stranger ruffled though his hair, eventually closing his eyes while his head lolled on his shoulder. He was almost disappointed when the hand pulled away, and after blinking a few times he looked back— embarrassment rising at the sight of the small insect. It had been raining for a good half hour, and if the ladybug had hung on before it started—

“How long were they on me…?”

He slowly extended a finger towards the spotted bug as he spoke.

“Hmm… I only just saw it myself, so I’m not sure. But probably not for too long, if you hadn’t noticed yet.”

He moved the hand forward slightly to let the beetle climb onto the other. When it did, he stepped away a bit to brush some of the water off his own head.

“I guess I should have said something before messing with your hair like that, though… I thought you’d seen me when I came over,” the magician said, taking a seat beside him.

Kaito didn’t answer right away. He continued running his fingers purposefully through the other’s hair until he managed to find what he had caught sight of a few seconds before. Pausing, the magician carefully picked it up and took a small step back.

“Ah, sorry about that.” He held up his hand, where a small ladybird was now standing, and grinned. “Didn’t think you’d want this little guy hitching a ride for too long.”
