“Japanese History, we’re currently in tha Edo period.” Hattori let his hand fall back to his side.
His hand returned to the side as well. “Ah, the era of isolation, samurai, and rise of Japanese culture. I’m sure that’s a colourful time to learn about.“
“That’d be nice, Hakuba-San,” she says with a relieved smile. “Speaking of are you still moving between here and London?” She asks as they begin walking.
The teen nodded, falling in line to walk beside her.
“I am, though it’s starting to get less frequent. Most of the back and forth was due to not expecting to be in Japan so long and needing to settle a few things, though a few trips were due to cases. With any luck, though, I should be around more for the time being.”
“Well, nice ta mee’ ya. ‘m a history professor a’ an’ Osakan University an’ archaeologis’” He holds out a hand.
“It’s a pleasure,” he said as he took the proffered hand, “Do you teach any specific area of history? Something like ancient studies, if you’re also an archaeologist, or is it just general world history?”
“I’m in the process of desensitizing myself to those dead-eyed little alien creatures. I’m going to have a lot of fun today!” Kaitou grins and pinches the detective‘s cheek between thumb and forefinger.
Surprise! A small ink heart is now on Hakuba’s cheek. A rather harmless prank for the Broken-Glass Kid.
He raised a hand to rub his cheek a little after the pinch, blinking when he saw some ink get on his hand before looking back at the other.
Really? Reaally? Sigh. Don’t complain. It could be worse. Yes, from any Kid, it could be worse… And he’s just going to get a handkerchief out of his front pocket to start gently wiping at it.
“How nice for you… Forgive me if I’d rather be left out of your fun for the day.”
“Is there any place I can order them here? Or would I have to go online? Heh you are very knowledgeable on tea Hakuba-San,” she says with a wide grin. Of course she’s a bit of a tea enthusiast herself but when it came to different tea and their properties and what effects they had: She was clueless.
“Hmm… As knowledgeable as I may be, I’m actually not sure about whether there’s any places nearby that would have good blends. I normally bring most of my own from London myself…”
He paused in thought, then smiled at her. “I wouldn’t mind helping you look around, though, Ran-san.”
Just flashes a very Kaitou-like grin. “It’s poisson d’Avril. That’s probably why he’s made himself scarce.” Broken-Glass Kid isn’t quite as scared as fish as his other counterparts, but the apprehension is there.
“Ah, that would explain it… But I see that wasn’t enough to scare all of you away. You seem to be enjoying yourself… And aside from that, it’s mostly just paper. He didn’t need to ask me to watch this place.” Sigh.
“Well she is a very serious woman, intense and awe inspiring but she can be so petty. She’s usually very high strung and stressed so I suppose a tea that could relax her?” Really Ran’s expertise was more in food not teas so.
Although she really couldn’t help but wonder if something was off with Hakuba she couldn’t quite place her finger on it tho.
“Well, then something like the chamomile I mentioned or a lavender tea would likely help with that. They aren’t as strong of flavours like the usual black teas most people think of when they consider English teas. They’re more herbal, and don’t have caffeine, so they help to make others relax.“
“Though, those are also more to help with unwinding at night, I suppose. Hence why I might have a cup every once in a while… If she gets stressed, say, during work, then perhaps Darjeeling would be better… It also relieves stress, but the caffeine adds a boost, so it’s a better option for when you need to both feel both energised and relaxed.”
She can’t lie that smile of his does make her her kind of weak. “I did! Um, I wanted to find some new teas for my mother and she’s become fond of English teas, but I wasn’t sure which ones would be the best?”
“For your mother? You’re quite thoughtful, Ran-san. Unfortunately, there’s never quite such a thing as ‘the best’ when it comes to teas in general. It depends on mood and the person’s own tastes. I myself prefer Earl Grey normally, though I also have chamomile tea from time to time, since it helps with stress and insomnia. May I hear a little information about your mother? Such as general personality and job.”
