The thief turned at sudden voice, smiling at the other and resisting the urge to take a few steps away. While she was normally a nice girl, knowing what she could do with karate always kept him wary, even if he’d never actually been on the receiving end…

“Hmm? I wasn’t aware you were looking for me, ojou-san. Do you need something?”

Ran tilted her head to the side and sighed softly, she looked at his hand on her shoulder and bit her lower lip lightly. 

“Oh!” she started to say as a small smile appeared on her lips. “I remember how Ayumi told me that the professor said he would take Conan camping soon.” she told the thief and looked at him. “Maybe.. thats where they are? Maybe Shinichi is there too!”

That honestly sounded like an excuse to him. Granted, camping wasn’t all that suspicious… until it involved tantei-kun going without the other children. And apparently him screaming. Just a little hard to buy, for one reckless enough to jump off a skyscraper and free-fall for a while.

“Hmm… maybe… Did you try the professor’s phone? Or did she perhaps know where they were supposed to be going?” Kid asked, keeping his voice steady and calm.

“Hmm? I wasn’t aware you were looking for me, ojou-san. Do you need something?”

Right now, Ran was just so happy to have the young Thief around.. something was wrong and she knew it. Something horrible was going on and he was the only one she could think of.. after all he was smart and he would always find a way out of a mess. 

The brunette watched him as he placed a hand on her shoulder and leaned closer to her. Knowing that he would help her made her calm down and think straight, she closed her eyes to remember what else Conan said on the phone. “I don’t know.. i- it was like he was whispering.. maybe he was talking to Shinichi..” she told the thief before her and sighed as she opened her eyes. “Maybe he was somewhere and he didn’t want people to find out so he was whispering.. he said something about some men in black and then he told me he cant talk to me right now and the next thing i could hear was him screaming and i could hear him drop is phone.” she explained and didn’t realize that her tears were streaming down her face again.

That… was definitely bad…

Kid didn’t let the worry show on his face, but inside, he was cursing the detectives’ recklessness. He probably wasn’t one to talk, and while he’d known for some time that they’d gotten involved in something big, they shouldn’t have tried anything without at least telling someone… Wait…

He focused his attention back on Ran, bringing the other hand up, cupping her cheek and using his thumb to gently wipe the wetness from her face. The thief wished he could calm her worry entirely, but with things as they were… he wasn’t sure that would be possible right now.

“Please, dry your tears. They’re going to be fine. If something had happened to them, you’d have heard something by now, right? That you haven’t means they’re okay.”

Or, at least, not dead…

“Is there anyone tantei-kun might have told exactly where he was going? Someone he seemed close to, aside from tantei-han and yourself?”

“I-it happened this morning.. I even tried to call Hatori-kun but he is not picking up his phone either..” she explained as tears streamed down her face.

“I just don’t understand what is happening.. you are the only one i could think of since my dad is drunk and no help!”

Tantei-han may be involved? And they’re both not answering her…. this may not be good…

Kid tried to push that thought to the side for now. There was always the chance the two might not be connected. And if something really bad had happened, there would have been word of it by now… Though, he did wonder why she’d get so worried to have called the other detective so soon… If it was just Conan missing, there could have been any number of reasons to why he wouldn’t answer. A cause for some concern, yes, but not so much to contact someone who rarely got to see him. Why call the Osakan specifically? And then come to find a thief? If she really didn’t understand, why would she go to such lengths?

All the questions running through the thief’s mind were hidden behind a gentle smile, though. To get anywhere, he’d need to try and calm the other. He leaned forward slightly, so that he was eye-level with her, and lightly put a hand on her shoulder.

“Don’t worry, I’m sure they’re okay. They likely just got caught up in a case. But if we’re going to find out where, we need to be level-headed, ojou-san.” The smile grew a bit wider. “You’ve been around detectives long enough to have learned that. Did tantei-kun say he was going anywhere? And aside from him saying he’s with Kudo-kun, was there anything else in your conversation that might tell us anything?”

“P-please.. you need to help me find Shinichi and Conan." Thats when the girl couldn’t stop her tears from falling anymore. “The last time I called Conan he told me he is with Shinichi.. but something happened I heard him scream and now he is not answering his phone. Kid-sama! please.. help me.”

His smile fell, becoming more serious as Ran went on. If something had happened to the other, they would need act quickly. He might not be a detective himself, but Kid couldn’t just ignore this…

"Please, calm down, ojou-san. If I know tantei-kun, he’ll be fine. Did he say anything else? And when exactly did this happen?”
