And saying hello was something he appreciated, really. It was better than a lot of things.
“Hey, you never know. One day, our handwriting may just be worth millions of dollars. Not that money really shows something’s value, but if some dodgy billionaire wants to buy my signature someday, I’m not complaining.”
“Good point… Well, maybe not millions… But profit, yeah. Even better if the signature is from a certain thief, popular as that would be even now. “
“Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to the humble abode of one SHSL Magician. Kuroba Kaito, at your service. Care to see a trick or two? Or perhaps you’re just here for an autograph?”
“Definitely the autograph. After all, not often you have something signed by yourself, but not by your hand~ …Even if it wouldn’t mean much to anyone else.”
Not that he actually came for anything, just popped by to say hello.
He snorted at the thought, even though it made him shudder on the inside. The truth was, though, that he really hadn’t thought of checking for prints or the like – the only thing going through his mind when he caught sight of the waste laid upon his dear darling doves was revenge. It would have been a good idea, had the thought crossed his mind before, but the school had already cleaned up the mess, leave it to the Japanese educational system to clean up a crime scene, before anything could be done.
“I managed to get a picture of her in the act, though, but it was pretty low quality…aaaaaaaand maybe I took some slight liberties in dressing as her and taking a few higher-quality ones for more substantial proof. I mean, it’s not technically framing if she did it in the first place, right?”
"Well, tantei-san wouldn’t forge evidence, now would he? Though I guess it wouldn’t matter, if you were just trying to get her to admit it herself. Whether it would hold up to investigation or not wouldn’t really matter in that case.”
It was true, though. His other self didn’t say anything about turning her in, so if it’s just to get the girl to admit that she’d done something in the first place, the ‘proof’ didn’t necessarily have to be real in terms of what happened… And though he is thinking like this, it was largely because the other seemed to be trying fairly hard just to get her to make up for what she did to the birds. …Though probably best not to go too far, else he really will end up sounding like one of their detectives. Already troubling enough that his immediate line of thought after that had been whether or not the first could be enhanced at all. Even the worst of quality pictures had been shown to be changed well enough to see, after all.
“That’s the worst part – she won’t even admit to having done the crime. Now I’m on a wild goose chase for evidence to make her confess, and it’s gotten completely out of hand.” He sighed loudly. Things were not looking good, especially because the only hard evidence that he had, the fact that he saw her actually do it, belonged to ‘KID’ and not ‘Kaito’. And he could only go to the authorities as Kuroba, else he risked being questioned himself.
Evid- Do they really have to go that far just to get an apology?
“Sounds like it. I get that someone might not want to admit to doing that to a building, but when it causes trouble for something unrelated, they should at least apologise for that. It’s not like her saying something like that to you would mean much against her, since even if she admitted guilt to you because it upset your doves, you can’t catch her with that. It’d just be your word against hers if she denied it.”
The thief sighed and crossed his arms. Really, and he thought he made things more complicated… Well, technically his other self was, so somewhat the same thing.
“It’s not like they’re normally is much evidence for something like that… Even if you saw them, it’d be useless without proof, really… Don’t suppose the paper was still intact or not thrown away? Unless she was wearing gloves, you can still get prints and such from that.”
…Oh, jeeze, that person was right. He did sound like a detective… Must’ve been influenced at some point…
“A girl happened. She decided to pull a tasteless prank, and ended up getting toilet paper and egg yolks all over the school – and my birds. You think you’ve seen a plan go horribly wrong? This was a complete disaster.”
"Oh… Yeah, I can imagine how badly that went… And why they’re a bit agitated… Wouldn’t want to be her if they saw her right now. Did she apologise?” Considering it sounded like a prank on the school and not the birds directly, the damage didn’t seem intentional, but definitely something one should take responsibility for, when it involved someone’s animals. Because this thief wouldn’t be happy if someone messed with his doves either.
“Mou, let me play around with the others just for a bit. You of all people should know it’s no fun if the cat quits before the ridiculously handsome mouse can put up a fight~. And the doves are still a little…rowdy from a little incident, so I don’t know how kindly they’ll take anybody, be it one of us or one of the others.”
“Hmm… Well, I do know what you mean about the fun of cat and mouse~ Though, it helps when no one warns the cats that the mice might know how to play the game better at times… So, what happened with the lovely birds to get them so upset?”
“Well this is quite the crowd- er, welcome, welcome, my familiar faces and sincere strangers, to the magic show of the century! Handcuffs to your left, other weaponry to your right, and please try not to piss off the doves.”
“Thanks for the welcome, though one would think you’d be used to more people than this, SHSL Kaitou-san~ I’ll pass on the cuffs and arms. And I don’t think the doves will mind me at all~”
