There was the Kaito she knew — chipper grin and all.

Tapping her chin, Madison hummed thoughtfully. When she found it hard to pick, she covered her eyes and giggled. “Surprise me. There’s a lot I haven’t seen yet.”

Kaito hummed as he scanned through the cases in front of him, trying to figure out which one to watch. Really, though she mentioned she might not have seen some, his eyes kept drifting back to ones he’d watched far more than once. After three hours and a half hours of the James Cameron film, the magician definitely felt a draw to more familiar and fun movies, so he shrugged and picked Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory off the shelf and took it over to the player.

“Well, I’d be surprised if you haven’t seen this one, considering your protectiveness to your ‘stash’,” he said, grinning. Hey, someone who liked candy had to have seen this one at least once.

“Sneaking into the hospital after visiting hours?” he asked, a brow raising at the flutter of KID’s cape. He’d set the book he’d been reading down, placing a bookmark where he’d left off. Not that he needed it per se, he’d read the book enough times. “Can’t you do anything that doesn’t break a law?"

He was teasing, of course, and was actually glad to see the thief. He was starting to go a little stir-crazy as it was and cursing the fact he’d put himself in this situation. He needed to stop risking himself so much lest he self destruct.

“One of these days I’ll be able to meet with you during the day and not have to worry about the police chasing you,” he chuckled a bit. The line was probably out of character for him but he was on a bit of painkillers so he was maybe a little out of sorts.

And maybe a little more open.

“I played bait for a case. And you know how my luck is, something always goes wrong.” This time not only did his tracker get destroyed, they’d ended up in the wrong building completely. The culprit hadn’t been too pleased to find out he was working with the cops. “Ended up with another bullet wound to my count and a broken arm.” And a couple of ribs but he didn’t really see that was a problem considering none of them punctured a lung.

He blinked a couple of times at the other’s openness, a small, painful tug pulling at his chest as the other continued speaking. In all fairness, he could meet Shinichi as himself. The detective’s actions and attitude at the heists already made it fairly clear he’d be safe in terms of not being arrested… And really, it was Kid who carried the danger with getting too involved. People like Aoko and Hakuba, there were still reasons against giving away his identity, but Shinichi could only interact with him as Kid, and thus, gotten closer to him under the thief’s name… So whether his identity ever got out or not, the detective met danger anyway, if those people looking for Pandora ever tried to attack the ones around him…

Logic wasn’t what held him back. No, the reason… probably fell in line with habit. The thief had never outright given away his identity… Mostly just a couple of veiled hints, or someone figured it out on their own, but they’d always met him as Kaito first…

The thief paused his thoughts and looked up, becoming aware that the room had been silent for a minute or so.

“Hmm… Maybe I should ask the Lady if she’ll go over you when I’m not at a heist, if your luck is this bad. Or maybe you could learn to stop going after criminals directly. I don’t think all of them are as happy to see you as I am,” Light teasing, maybe a slight underlying scolding.

“Why did you do that?!”

meitantei-cowlick:

moonlightmajutsushi:

Why?

The thief clenched his teeth and led Shinichi over to the rooftop door as another shot bounced off the ground nearby, pulling it open and dragging the other close as they passed though.

Why are they here now?

He slammed the door shut behind them and leaned against it, breathing heavily with arms still wrapped protectively around the detective. He couldn’t even remember the last time snipers had been at his heists. Ever since they’d hired the assassin, there hadn’t been nearly as many run-ins with gunmen. Much less those that shot from afar. And now they’d put Shinichi in danger… Of course he would make sure the detective didn’t get hit.

After a moment, he loosened his hold to smile down at the other, trying to ignore the pain in his chest.

“Didn’t want you.. to get hurt… because of me… tantei-kun…”

“Stupid, idiot!” he managed out once they were safe in the hallway for the moment. It had taken a bit to not pound his fists against Kaito’s chest, careful of the wound that had to be bleeding. His heart was pounding and his head felt far too light, a little dizzy even but he was sure it was because of the panic that had bubbled up at the jerk of KID’s body when the bullet had hit.

How many nightmares had he dreamt of something like that happening? He’d lost count. His eyes stung with tears as he glared up at the white (and a bit red?) clad thief.

“T-that doesn’t give you the right to possibly die for me!”

Yes, a bit more red started to bleed through to stain the jacket now, a little off-center and in the lower section of the chest, though the area quickly got covered by a gloved hand. It hurt, but the adrenaline running though him kept him from feeling all of it. The situation demanded more of his attention. He clearly couldn’t go back out to the roof, but even if he could avoid the police like this from inside the building, that didn’t guarantee that he’d be safe leaving from the ground, either. Someone who’s been hit isn’t exactly the hardest to notice, and if the shooters were close enough, he’d just be a grounded target. And he couldn’t call for an ambulance or anything because of the same problem of standing out…

…But the detective gave him a few more options, if he could get the other to calm down. So Kid hugged Shinichi closer, holding the other’s head over his still beating – though at a slightly faster pace than normal – heart with his free hand as he smiled and leaned his head down over the detective.

“Well… thieves don’t always refrain… from what they don’t have rights… to do… now do they?”

The thief held him there a few moments before relaxing. He did know time was of the essence, just wanted to give Shinichi a chance to not panic right now. Would be best. Right. Now…

“…Don’t suppose you happen to have… a car we could use?”

Send me ‡ for my character’s reaction to yours climbing into bed with mine.

The sudden depression of the bed became apparent and Ran’s eyes opened. She expected to find Conan’s small frame beside her. It was an understatement to say she was surprised when she turned from her current position and her eyes fell upon Kaitou. Scrambling to sit up, she pulled the covers to her. Honestly, he was lucky to have not landed on his backside due to her foot meeting with his face. Not just yet. Surprise and semi-consciousness still held her locked somewhere between waking and sure that she was dreaming.

She wasn’t about to ask how he got in. The Kid worked in mysterious ways. But still, as to the why, she had to know.

“W-what are you doing here?"

She looked from the watch to his face and back to the watch, blinking back more of her sleep and sitting up in the bed to gain a better hold on her consciousness. She was convinced she had been dreaming up until the point he offered her the watch. “Conan-kun’s watch?” She wondered  just when he’d gotten his hands on it as Conan was pretty protective of it, but didn’t really want to ask.

“Oh, well thank you, Kaitou Kid.” She reached out to take it from him, hoping not to drop the piece of jewelry. not believing that she was actually there thanking the thief. “I’ll make sure he gets it.” The entire event seemed almost surreal, the moonlight streaming in the window and Kid sitting on her bed. She didn’t oppose the intrusion but was not too keen on it either. Pulling the sheets up a bit, she nodded. “I take it you’ll be going now?” It was more of a statement than a question.

image

“Of course, ojou-san. I’ve done what I came to do, thank you.”

Kid moved off of the bed. He could only push his luck so far, and really, visiting Mouri-chan’s room in the middle of the night might already have been stretching it. She didn’t seem to mind the visit as much as he could have feared, but still better to leave as soon as possible. The thief swiftly hopped up onto the window ledge, pausing before heading off to look up, then looked back at the other.

“Ah… If you could not mention that I was the one who had it, as well? I apologise for asking these favours, but I’m not sure he’d be happy knowing something of his was in the hands of a thief.” And didn’t want to risk even more possible trouble at the next heist because of anything.

Fingers singled out the roses and carefully lifted them from the bouquet.

“I take it that I can expect you at the next heist, then? I’ll look forward to it, tantei-kun~”

Shinichi snorted in reply, rolling his eyes some. “You’re something else, you know that?” Please, he knew KID made a habit of sneaking in, even if it was just to check up on him. The thief was very protective of what was his, and he considered quite a few people his in some way.

“And leaving this note with your little caricature will involve coming into my home, won’t it? Unless your observant comment is meant to insinuate it won’t be found in my home, which means you’ll be stalking me to find out my schedule, if you don’t already.” This thief was going to be the death of him he was sure.

“Ah, but tantei-kun… You seem to be forgetting that I have helpers. I wouldn’t have to go to your house ahead of time or know your schedule, if they can track you instead~”

Kid then gave a low whistle, and smiled as a few doves flew over a short time later. One lighted on his shoulder, another on the hat, and the last went to land on Shinichi. The hand holding the flowers stayed behind the thief as he raised the other arm to lightly pet the closest one.

“And one of them especially fancies that she’d be able to find you anywhere, so I suppose she could be called your dove, in a way.”

Send me a ╰☆╮ and…

5th Person: To see my muse cry

Kaito lay curled up on one of the beds in the nurses office. There were still a few tears in his eyes, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as it had been earlier when he’d stepped into the biology room. Really, there should have been a sign that said they’d be doing dissections that day. Especially when they were using those… things instead of frogs. Had nearly given him a heart attack…

He heard the door open and glanced up, half expecting the nurse to have come back from getting some more supplies. But it wasn’t her who walked in.

“Aoko? Why’re you in here?” He wiped his face a bit to get rid of some of the wetness. “If you’re looking for the nurse, she’s out right now…”

image

“You’re lying, aren’t you? I’m kind of sure, that you did cry just now. So what’s wrong? Is it because of what we are doing in biology right now? I know that you hate fish, but that is no reason to start crying. You could just ask the teacher to give you a frog instead of a fish.”

She paused for a few minutes as she slowly laid down next to him. “You shouldn’t make your life more complicated as it needs to be, Kaito.”

Switching what I get doesn’t change what’s around me… or what going on with those things around meUgh…

He had to stop thinking about it. It might not be the first time he’s seen those things in pieces, but at least they were displayed as food, not being cut open with everything…

No, nope, stop. Not going to make himself feel sick again.

”…Well, sor-ry for being good at making things complicated…“

“Why are you leaving?”

Shinichi flinched at the sound of the thief’s voice, wishing to god it had been any one but him to ask. He could lie to just about anyone, had been doing so for so long, but KID wasn’t one of those people. Their entire relationship, of sorts, had been honest (though that didn’t mean there weren’t secrets or things unsaid). And now he was going to have to lie about this, couldn’t let him know.

“Figures you would seek me out upon hearing I’m leaving,” he sighed out, keeping his back to the thief. Maybe he could manage if he didn’t look at him? “I… have a new case I’m being sent on. It’ll take me out of the country.”

“You don’t understand!” His voice had even startled himself, realizing he’d blurted it out without thinking. It was too late to take it back, he might as well just continue on and hope he wasn’t being spied on.

“This man is dangerous serial killer, it took us months to catch up to him!” And far too many deaths in the process but Shinichi tried hard not to dwell on that thought too much.“That was the case that landed me in the hospital for almost as long as we chased the guy.”

Of course now that he’s mentioning it he isn’t sure how much information KID had ever managed to find out about that specific case. He hadn’t wanted to worry the thief after all. Hm, may have just gotten himself in trouble. Oops.

“I don’t want to go, believe me. And I know you’re hard to kill but this guy… KID, he scares me. He is capable of anything, it’s almost like going up against the crows only he doesn’t have a boss and punishment to worry about. And he’d do anything to hurt you, kill you, just to get at me.”

The sudden outburst took the thief by surprise, making him jolt a bit and pull his hand back as he listened, frowning. No, he hadn’t known those details about the hospital situation, but as often as Shinichi got involved in cases he shouldn’t, he’d just taken to offering support on injuries and expecting the other to tell him if it was more important than just ‘how did you get hurt this time?’. Apparently he’d expected too much…

However, the detective did seem to be terrified of the guy. For him. Especially if he was comparing the killer to those people…

Baka tantei

Kid moved closer, pulling the other to where he faced him directly, lightly placing his hands on both sides of Shinichi’s head to make him look at the thief.

“Tantei-kun… If he really wanted to hurt you, why would leaving make a difference? It wouldn’t be a guarantee he wouldn’t come after me anyway, if he’s that bad, and you’re going to be hurt anyway just by going away. And then both of us wouldn’t have the other to rely on. You’re scared, but you’ve gotten him once before. And if he’s going to try and hurt me, then at least you know where he’ll aim, instead of having to let him wander around because you’re not here to stop him this time.”

His voice softened slightly and he slowly let go of the detective.

“Besides, if you stayed… you’d have some extra help this time.”

“Wake up!”

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

moonlightmajutsushi:

The thief jerked and his eyes slowly regained their focus. His mind was still clouded, but it was quickly fading, and it wasn’t too long before he became aware of what was going on around him again.

And to have the detective’s face not to far from his own was surprising to see, to say the least.

“…T-tan..tei?”

Kid tried  to raise a hand, blinking when he found resistance. His eyes glanced up and he noticed the other’s hands on his wrists, suddenly becoming very aware that there was quite a bit of weight on him as well. He didn’t push the other away, however. Confusion was the only thing really going through his head right now, and he was trying to figure out what had happened, not even aware that he was relaxing as his mind was returning.

“Why….”

When KID finally started to wake, Hakuba let out a sigh of relief. He was panting himself, the thief was strong, and he’d had to put all of his weight on him just to keep him still. He’d also taken an elbow to the cheek, which was probably red with irritation. He was going to have to clean it thoroughly later, but that didn’t matter at the moment. The adrenaline and fear for his safety and KID’s had kept his mysophobia in check.

“KID.” He replied, trying to even out his breaths. “You’ve finally snapped out of it I see.” He could feel him trying to lift his arms, but he kept them down, wanting to be sure he wouldn’t slip back into what ever had happened before again.

image

“You became violent. I don;t know why, but you were a danger to yourself, and me. I had to struggle to get you to the floor, you elbowed me in the face, and I had to pin you down with all my weight just to keep you from hurting me or yourself anymore.” Hakuba sighed and slacked his grip a bit, shifting his weight so it wasn’t fully on the other. “Are you yourself again?”

image

“I think so…”

The thief breathed a little easier after the other shifted, though his heart still raced in his chest. He’d been violent? Really, all he could remember right now was feeling afraid and trapped… Though, now that he’d woken up and actually had some restriction on him… Kid couldn’t really feel the fear. Maybe a slight wariness returning, with the detective this close, but he didn’t fight against the hold again right now. Whatever had happened, he wanted to get calm just as much as Hakuba likely wanted him to. It… hadn’t been the most pleasing feeling to have, so he was fine with the other holding him down to keep it in check at the moment.

Kid did look up at the detective’s face, though, focusing on the reddened area before his eyes flicked down slightly.

“…I suppose I should thank you for stopping me, if I was that out of hand. And I apologise for hurting you, tantei.”

britishhsdetectivehakuba:

Hakuba watched as Kuroba looked over the egg. He seemed interested, and he allowed him to pull it closer. He was actually a bit nervous. Eggs were fragile, and what if Kuroba still didn’t believe him? Hakuba could have made all of this, though his artistic skills weren’t that great. It would still be possible, at least the egg. The container itself was a bit more difficult.

“Not very often. It’s normally special occasions.” Hakuba finally reached into his pocket and pulled out the pokeball there and placed it on the table. “Rangers are only allowed one partner, but when I went there, I was at the lab. That’s where I met foxy.” He smiled down at the pokeball. “She was a Fennekin. Fire fox pokemon. She liked to snack on twigs.” He shook his head to clear his thoughts.

“I helped out a ranger who was trying to save a sick pokemon. The owner gave him the egg as a gift, but because a ranger can only ever have one partner, he couldn’t accept it; so he gave it to me. After I touched the egg, I returned home.”

Kaito hummed as he listened, glancing over at the ball the detective put on the table, then at Hakuba. While all of this sounded strange… The other wasn’t exactly the type to lie. Or go to such lengths as to make something believable. At least not out of the blue like this. And…

…He’d rarely ever seen the detective look at something with so much love. More than any of the physical evidence the other teen was showing, the expressions and how he spoke about this Pokemon world were far more telling

The magician turned his attention back to the egg. Because it was probably the biggest thing pulling at his curiosity right now. If he believed Hakuba, which is was, for the most part, then this contained the most mysteries, barring how the other had gone to another world in the first place. This egg brought him back to this one. And everything about it was unknown, aside from how it came to be in the detective’s hands in the first place.

Not that there was much he could do with it, other than look. And other than how large it was and the spots, there didn’t seem to be anything noteworthy about it… Though, a part of him wanted to touch the egg itself, hold it. Kaito wasn’t entirely sure why. Maybe because contact with heat might help it hatch, if it could  even do that in this world?

…Or maybe he just wanted to see if anything would happen if he did touch it. If the egg brought Hakuba back here, maybe it could also go back to the world he’d visited?

Regardless of his thoughts and desires, the brunet just turned the container around one last time before carefully pushing it back towards Hakuba some, ignoring the fact that his fingers twitched slightly. It was an egg, it possibly had something in it, and it had been put under Hakuba’s care. Wasn’t something he should interfere with.

“…Sounds like a nice place, honestly. Having Pokemon to help out and stay with you.” Like super pets, actually. The type that were as close as family. But that world also seemed a lot more friendly. Sure, people were people everywhere, but a world that has some willing to go out of the way to help not just humans, but the creatures that lived there…

…Sounded a lot better than here.

“So,” he continued with a grin as he tilted his head back up to look at the other, “Any plans on how to try and help it hatch?”
